I wouldn’t call myself the greatest lover of romance novels. In fact, I generally don’t enjoy a book without murder / suspense / mystery, unless it’s really well written. This book was fine, and it satisfied the “Love Letters” achievement for the New Year Kindle Challenge. Like I said, I love a good Kindle Challenge. This one specifically required reading a kindle version of a romance book. As this one was a short story, and written by Ali Hazelwood, it was right up my alley. I jsut read her Goodreads bio, and she’s a girl after my own heart! Here’s her tagline: I’m Ali, and I write contemporary romcom novels about women in STEM and academia. I love cats, Nutella, and side ponytails. I am also a woman in STEM, I love cats, and I also love Nutella. I apparently read another of her short stories for the end of the year Kindle challenge. I guess Amazon is trying to get me into reading more romance. STOP JUDGING ME AMAZON!
Anyway, this story is about a new doctor named Jamie who has to trudge over to her high school friend Marc’s house in a snowstorm to borrow a pan. It’s uncomfortable for her, as she and Marc grew up together and tried to date once. Hilarity ensues, and of course there’s a miscommunication that resulted in them being apart! That might be one of my *least* favorite tropes in romance books. This one was pretty minor though, so I let it slide.
Sorry if this title has everyone stuck with Cruel Summer as an earworm for the rest of the day! 3.5 stars
