A pop culture junkie, Katie has an addiction to tragically bad romance novels. In addition, Katie is resolute in her belief that Evans is #BestChris and has moved to the PNW from the Bayou. Can anyone say culture shock?

Daring? Not really, but a lot of fun.

Katie: After the debacle that was the shark shifter book, I felt like a palate cleanser was in order. LB Gregg’s sequel to Catch Me If You Can, Trust Me If You Dare, seemed like just the ticket – and it was, just as expected. I love that the author uses feisty to describe a male character. It’s not actually a gender specific word, but is so often used that way – especially in romance. And, let’s face it, Saysahr is nothing if not feisty. Now […]

In which I review a collection of works by a self-published author

April 27, 2015 by katie71483 2 Comments

Today, I’m going to be reviewing three works by self-published author Marlene Sowder. The first, described as stories to tickle your frontal lobe, Candy Dish is a collection of short stories – each 500 words or less. There were some interesting ideas and the author clearly respects the power of language and knows how to leverage the same in creating sound plot structures and narratives. The thing is, and this is a matter of personal preference that reflects more on me than the writer, I […]

In which I realize how well a mother knows her child(ren)

April 22, 2015 by katie71483 Leave a Comment

I feel like I should warn you upfront: Marti Dumas, the author of the delightful Jala and the Wolves, was a bosom bow of my childhood. We met in fifth grade when we were assigned desks next to each other at a public school in New Orleans, and immediately recognized each other as kindred spirits. We shared a love of books, making fortune tellers or swans out of folded paper, and giggling over terrible movies when we’d spend the night at each other’s homes. We […]

I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll…

April 20, 2015 by katie71483 2 Comments

…okay, not really, but THEME, people, THEME! (And make sure to click on the gifs for maximum viewing pleasure…) [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4cFIzr85cU&w=420&h=315] Katie: Something interesting happened on the way to the bookstore: Kristen Ashley has evidently written a book I don’t hate. After deciding we were finished (at least for a while) with J.R. Ward, I had the bright idea that it might be fun to do a Kristen Ashley.  Since Kindle is ALWAYS pushing her Rock Chick series, we started with book one which is […]

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t

April 18, 2015 by katie71483 2 Comments

Patty: There is dream fulfillment fantasy and then there is the Book of Butch. A human ex-cop originally from Southie, Butch has been adopted, for lack of a better word, by the Black Dagger Brotherhood. He is like their little human sidekick, allowed to hang out with them and sit at the cool vamp cafeteria table. Since the dude can actually go out in sunlight, he comes in handy when they need him to like, I don’t know… go to Costco or run DMV errands. […]

Whip it! Whip it good!

April 15, 2015 by katie71483 4 Comments

Today’s review is brought to you by the unnecessary letter Z… Patty: OMG that that title is just the right amount of wrong. But seriously, how are we going to banter about this one? There is nothing funny or lighthearted about it. Katie: Phatty brings up a good point. Lover Awakened, the third installment in J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series, is no laughing matter. Maybe we need to switch gears and do a serious review this time. First though, I need Bella, the female […]
