My husband Jason and I are wonder twin cancer survivors! Sadly, all the radiation did not make us bionic...yet. I've done two quarter Cannonballs successfully now, and this year I'm going for a half. (Learn more about this Cannonballer: Debcapsfan's Quick Questions interview.)

Did you just yada yada yada the apocalypse?

Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee

January 20, 2022 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

More post apocalyptic fiction! This time, we don’t really get into the why things happen and what caused this, this book takes place long into the future, where there are metahumans with super powers, and heroes and villains. Not Your Sidekick, by C.B.Lee tells the story of Jessica Tran, living in a futuristic town where her parents are minor celebrity super heroes. Her sister is a much bigger super hero working for the League of Heroes. Jess is bi, and has a big crush on […]

When A Cozy Mystery Needs a Trigger Warning

Of Murders and Mages: Casino Witch Mysteries 1 by Nikki Haverstock

January 11, 2022 by Debcapsfan 5 Comments

I got this book, from a link on twitter promising to stuff your kindle with free romance novels. You could sort by format of e-reader, and genre. Fun, right? So I read Of Murders and Magic, the first in a series set in magical casino set in a made up town by Nikki Haverstock, who apparently hosted a reality tv archery competition in 2013 on NBCSports Network. What else can I tell you about this author? Well, let me tell you, she’s incredibly fat phobic. […]

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

January 4, 2022 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

The House in the Cerulean Sea was on a best of list, but I can’t remember which one I got it from anymore. I highly recommend Daniel Henning’s read of the audio book by TJ Klune. The story is set in the present, or perhaps the near future, but there are magical creatures. Like many stories, there is a registry of the creatures, there’s a lot of discrimination and fear. In this case, the creatures are children, and they live in an orphanage run by […]

And then they all died

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

September 8, 2021 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

CBR Square- Mythic I was talking to my husband about Piranesi after he asked me what I thought about it and I told him I loved it but I didn’t want to spoil any of it so I didn’t know what to say. He told me to just say “and then all died.” Sorry. Piranesi is a slow building mystery where the main character is in a House by the sea full of statues that is built like a maze. The main character, who doesn’t remember […]

Bogged Down with Hairshirts

The Charmed Wife by Olga Grushin

July 15, 2021 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

CBR Square: Cityscape. Shoutout to the folks who put together the CBR Bingo, because I was wondering where to fit this book, then I looked at the paperback cover and realized it has a cityscape in a shoe outline. I liked this book more than the last Cannonball Reviewer, but it did drag in several placed for me. The Charmed Wife is a retelling of Cinderella, where she’s been married to her Prince for 13.5 years and he’s a cheating horndog. This is hammered home […]

One Life

One Life by Megan Rapinoe

May 18, 2021 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

Megan Rapinoe has lived an amazing life, and she documents it in a way that it feels like she’s having a conversation with you in her autobiography, One Life. The book goes through her childhood, learning to play soccer, going to college, making the US Women’s Junior and then National teams, and then kicking butt and winning the World Cup. She also talks about her decision to kneel before games while the Anthem plays. What I love about her (I tried to lobby to get […]
