CBR11 Bingo Square- Science! The Dispatcher by John Scalzi was created as an audio book narrated by Zachary Quinto, and was a free monthly download for subscribers. I’ve only read one other Scalzi (I really should fix that) but this main character, Tony Valdez, is a similar type of main character, working in a morally gray area and not feeling that bad about it. In his world, most people cannot be murdered, they wake up in their beds, naked and with the clock starting again. This opens a position that seems to be tied to the Government of the place, […]
4.5 stars This post contains spoilers from the original Runaways graphic novels. When I found out that one of my favorite authors and favorite people to follow on Twitter, Rainbow Rowell was writing a continuation of the Runaways, a group of Marvel teens that find out their parents and super evil and murdering kids, I was very excited. I had only read the first 3 collected volumes, but Gert and Chase are one of my favorite couples of all time. I knew that Rainbow Rowell would follow the plot lines from the original Runaways series, but also put her new […]
I found this book,Witchmark, on a list of best sci-fi/fantasy books from 2018. I wanted to try a new author. The setting is an alternate Edwardian England where the elites rule with weather magic. People who can’t control the weather and are born into the elite class are seconds, forced to give their secondary magic to the weather mages. Miles Singer runs from his family and servitude to his sister and joins the war between Aeland and Laneer. Now the war has ended and he lives as a doctor, using his gift of healing to help soldiers returned from […]
This is a collection of a web comic created by Ngozi Ukazu about the fictional Samwell hockey team. It’s one of NPR’s best books of 2018, but I found it through the Puck Soup hockey podcast. If you don’t like/know anything about hockey and found college to be less than great you will still enjoy this. I love hockey and laughed so hard. But it’s much more about the relationships between friends during a couple of years of their lives. The main character is Eric Bittle, a freshman who was a former figure skater from the south. He comes to […]
3.5 stars I started following Beverly Jenkins on Twitter because someone told her to “check her white privilege.” Romance twitter is fun and she is fun. (Don’t cross any of the romance authors on twitter though because they will eat you alive.) So today’s my birthday and I found out we share a birthday and it’s all very exciting. Anyhoo, I enjoyed this book. It’s very steamy, Billie is a whore and Andrew is an attorney and land owner. That’s certainly one way to work in more sex scenes in a historical without having a wedding. Their chemistry is great, […]
The Renegades series by Marissa Meyer was supposed to be a duology. The first book, Renegades, tells the story of Gatlin City, a far distant US (probably) where people with super powers started appearing, and chaos quickly descended. A group of anarchists ruled the city, with the help of gangs. (It is unclear if members of the gangs have powers, or are just not nice people.) The Anarchists are overthrown by a group with powers (called prodigies) known as the Renegades. At the start of the first book, the Renegades rules the city on a council. Nova Artino, the main […]
I have a cute model, so here you go. 🙂 I got this from Ale as part of the Cannonball read book exchange. I read it only in the daytime, because I am wimpy. Vicious tells the story of two college boys Victor and Eli who start experimenting with cheating death to become EOs, people with extraordinary abilities. There are a lot of interesting ideas in here about good and evil and souls. Eli gets his abilities and becomes a vigilante, killing other people who have extraordinary abilities. Victor ends up in prison for a long time. He’s not the […]
Pictured…my very boring desk at work. Thank you Ale for the lovely goodies, especially the socks (I teared up a little, I’m not going to lie.) This community is the best! Smoochies.
