I got this book from a stuff your kindle thread on twitter. According to the description it was a historical romance with a Duke and an American heiress, with the pairs from previous stories having supernatural abilities. The Duke, Sebastian, forms a League (not of Extraordinary Gentleman although that could work here) of people with supernatural abilities to protect them.
This is the third book in the series, and I probably should have gotten the first two to get some context that I missed, but the book explains the first two couples stories to get you caught up without over explaining. The women in the couples get less story time in this book than the men do.
Delany Temple, the American heiress is young and adventurous with silky black hair, unlike the cover. All women in historical romances have silky hair. I’m very skeptical. I thought her ability was very interesting, she has a photographic memory, and she visualizes it as a library where each of the memories or facts is stored like a book. The problem is she disappears into her library for too long, making her vulnerable.
Sebastian is a fire starter, and I liked all the metaphors of the chemistry between Delany and him and things catching fire. They have great chemistry even without things catching fire around them. I liked them as a couple. The obstacle in this case for the couple is pretty serious, what with the real possibility that Sebastian can hurt Delany. There is a McGuffin that helps solve this problem, and also helps transition to the next story with the youngest member of the League who is related to one of the other characters. The background players are not as fleshed out as they would be in the first book in the series.
Overall, I did like this and will probably go back and look up the first two books. But my reading pile is long so it may be awhile…
