My husband Jason and I are wonder twin cancer survivors! Sadly, all the radiation did not make us bionic...yet. I've done two quarter Cannonballs successfully now, and this year I'm going for a half. (Learn more about this Cannonballer: Debcapsfan's Quick Questions interview.)

Two for One Weddings

After the Wedding by Courtney Milan

November 29, 2022 by Debcapsfan 2 Comments

I got After the Wedding from Courtney Milan when I donated to a trans rights charity she was matching donations for. It was very exciting! And it’s signed by her! It’s a Courtney Milan book, so it was a very interesting historical romance, set right after the Civil War. The book takes place in England, Adrian Hunter has a black father and a white mother who sound devoted to each other but are not introduced. Maybe in a future story? Camilla Worth is high society […]

The Wicked and the Divine Book 1: The Faust Act by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Matthew Wilson, Clayton Cowles

August 2, 2022 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

CBR Bingo Center Square: Star This graphic novel collects the series the Wicked and the Divine, the first 5 comic books. The idea of the series is that every ninety years 12 gods incarnate as human beings. They become part of The Pantheon, and in two years they are dead. In this incarnation, the gods are rock stars. The story centers on Laura, a super fan of the Pantheon and her relationship with the person who claims to be the reincarnation of Lucifer. She goes […]

So Much Unsaid

You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle

April 13, 2022 by Debcapsfan 1 Comment

I saw this on NPR’s best books from 2021 and checked it out of the library. I do peek and see how other Cannonballers liked a book before I post my review. In this case because this was on a best books list and I found You Deserve Each Other very meh. This story could have been catnip for me with the terrible interfering mother-in-law. Mine once told my husband before we got married that because I have a “high, flat forehead” I must be […]

The End Justifies the Means

Radicalized by Cory Doctorow

March 29, 2022 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

Radicalized by Cory Doctorow is four short stories turned into a novel. I checked this out from the library. The cover grabbed me, it is black and white with four red and black images, a piece of toast with a no sign marked through it, a person in a heroic pose with a cape trailing behind them, a pill with a hand reaching up through it, and a red skull on a black background. I enjoyed “Unauthorized Bread” about digital rights management. The heroine is […]

Fine, I’ll Say It

Peace Talks by Jim Butcher

March 8, 2022 by Debcapsfan 4 Comments

I got Peace Talks by Jim Butcher out of the library. I’m not sure they have Battle Ground, I guess I should check. I was…underwhelmed. I’m starting to think that Jim Butcher can’t write/doesn’t know what to do with his female characters. Everyone wants Harry, Harry wants everyone, except Justine, because she’s off limits.  He can’t even act like a normal dude about Butters’ consensual poly relationship.  And yes, I’m glad he and Karrin Murphy finally traded I love yous, but he couldn’t get it […]

Sparks Fly

The Duke is Wicked (League of Lords Book 3) by Tracy Sumner

March 1, 2022 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

I got this book from a stuff your kindle thread on twitter. According to the description it was a historical romance with a Duke and an American heiress, with the pairs from previous stories having supernatural abilities. The Duke, Sebastian, forms a League (not of Extraordinary Gentleman although that could work here) of people with supernatural abilities to protect them. This is the third book in the series, and I probably should have gotten the first two to get some context that I missed, but […]
