Bookworm

Bookworm by Robin Yeatman

December 31, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

I received this book via NetGalley. This did not effect my rating or review. Did Not Finish-40 percent I tried. This book was pretty bad. I ended up disliking the main character, Victoria and could not get into it. I know this was a black comedy, but I just went, okay this is not my cup of tea. At all. I thought at times she had to be a psychopath. “Bookworm” follows Victoria, who we quickly find out is not happily married to her husband […]

Don’t Fear the Reaper

Don't Fear the Reaper by Stephen Graham Jones

December 31, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this via NetGalley. This did not effect my rating or review.  I just need to give up. I am never going to be in love with Stephen Graham Jones works like my horror friends are. I have tried people. This book was just a mess. Parts of it shone, and I get why my friends like his books when you get to the shiny parts. But the whole plot just gets beyond confusing at one point. And I am so […]

Murder in an Irish Village

Murder in an Irish Village by Carlene O'Connor

December 30, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Not bad, just not that engaging after a while. The first in a really long “cozy” series that I may pick up again. The book just struggled at the 50 percent mark and I felt myself getting really bored. I got told the other books are really good and I should keep on reading, so will definitely do that. I enjoyed the characters, the writing, the central mystery, and why the murderer did it, but the flow was killing me. I just thought there was […]

The Library of Lost and Found

The Library of Lost and Found by Phaedra Patrick

December 30, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Oh wow. I did love this one. Though a library is central to the story, I loved the fact instead of hearing about famous books you would know, we get to know about stories the main character Martha used to write until she was a teenager. I would have loved if at the end Patrick had put all of the stories together for us to read, or even had a companion novel. The stories are sad and at times dark fairy tales. You get why […]

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger

December 30, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

A very strong 3.5 stars that I rounded up to 4 stars for the purposes of this review. This was much better than Last Girl Ghosted, but still had some issues. The biggest one is that at least one of the narrative voices could have been entirely cut (the owner of the cabins) and possibly another one as well. But the book at one point gave us too many people’s points of views while we were reading storylines from the past and getting back into […]

The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz

The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz by Erik Larson

December 30, 2022 by Classic 2 Comments

Wow. Fantastic. It took me a while to get through (it’s over 500 pages) but very much enjoyed. I loved the focus on Churchill, his family, and the rest of the inner circle that kept Britain going during WWII. We also get some insights into Germany, Hitler, and others who were focused on trying to take out Churchill since they saw him as the reason for Britain’s continued defiance. The book goes very briskly after the U.S. enters the war. Larson wraps things up on […]
