The Kill Clause by Lisa Unger

The Kill Clause by Lisa Unger

November 24, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

This was a seasonal mystery/murder novella that I have to say really didn’t land well. Give me a story about assassins’ with a Christmas twist I said. Well it just fell short. I think Unger can do really in your face endings and I think that she could have went there with this one. The ending was wholly unrealistic though which is the main reason why I gave this 3 stars. The Kill Clause follows Paige. Paige we find out is an assassin (think Black Widow) […]

Close Your Eyes and Count to 10 by Lisa Unger

Close Your Eyes and Count to 10 by Lisa Unger

Whelp, this was bad. I mean not Trump starts a war with Iran bad, but it was not a good book. I think that a lot of authors are trying this destination thriller sub-genre and it’s not a great read. It doesn’t help that Unger has I think 7 different points of view in this one (Adele, her two kids, Maverick, Maverick’s girlfriend, another player, and I know I am forgetting someone else). There’s no character development of anyone due to this and the ending […]

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger

December 30, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

A very strong 3.5 stars that I rounded up to 4 stars for the purposes of this review. This was much better than Last Girl Ghosted, but still had some issues. The biggest one is that at least one of the narrative voices could have been entirely cut (the owner of the cabins) and possibly another one as well. But the book at one point gave us too many people’s points of views while we were reading storylines from the past and getting back into […]

Last Girl Ghosted

Last Girl Ghosted by Lisa Unger

June 8, 2022 by Classic 7 Comments

This was just not good. I don’t want to have spoilers in the full review, but it was far-fetched and absurd. The book also drags beyond belief. Unger also weirdly includes the beginnings of COVID-19, then doesn’t follow up with it at all in the end. At least I don’t think she did. But I may have missed it because I was shaking my head at the ending. “Last Girl Ghosted” follows Wren Greenwood who is a self-help columnist and has her own podcast (everyone […]

These little collections are great in a very specific way; the stories are quick, unique from each other, and can be accessed through both the Kindle and Audible. If I have just a few minutes to listen while doing chores, I can pop in and out without needed to re-immerse myself in something long and complicated! If I have a long line at the Post Office, I can stand and read the majority of a story while I wait. Low impact, low commitment, and decent […]

The Ghosts of Tragedies Past

March 17, 2017 by LadyStardust Leave a Comment

I am not particularly partial to psychic-based mysteries, and I don’t know if I would have read this one had I known beforehand that it fell into that category, but I’m glad I went in blind, because I really got swept up in reading this one. Finley is a budding psychic and college student, who rather than listen, is trying to escape the voices and ghosts of people she sees and hears all around her. When Finley starts hearing a strange noise over and over again […]
