One Perfect Couple by Ruth Ware

One Perfect Couple by Ruth Ware

May 9, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

The ending and reveal on how things ended up the way they did really just ruined my enjoyment of this book. I really wish that Ware had went a different way with this one. I liked the whole idea of this being a homage of “And Then There Were One” with everyone being moved to a deserted island via a reality tv show. But once you get to how they all got there and why and the big gaping plot holes about why X and […]

The Diaries of Adam and Eve by Mark Twain

The Diaries of Adam and Eve by Mark Twain

May 9, 2025 by Classic 2 Comments

I don’t know how many people have read “The Diaries of Adam and Eve” but it’s honestly probably the only one of Mark Twain’s works that I ever fully enjoyed. I think I gave “Tom Sawyer” 4 stars, but “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and the constant use of the “n” word turned me off that book very quickly. And I never fully read “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”. “The Diaries of Adam and Eve” are great, it goes back and forth between […]

Are You Happy? by Lori Ostlund

Are You Happy? by Lori Ostlund

May 8, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Well this is weird. This is a short story collection I enjoyed from beginning to end. Some of the stories were fairly long, some were short, but all hit me in a place of just missing people. I think the title, “Are You Happy?” is asking a question and one wonders if it was a question the author wanted to ask certain characters. Most of the nine stories focus […]

The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo

The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo

May 5, 2025 by Classic 2 Comments

This took a little bit to get going, but once it did, I was not able to put it down until I finished it. I loved this book from beginning to end and I just didn’t want it to end. I thought Bardugo’s writing and just lyricism with certain words was fantastic. And this book did a great job of blending history, fantasy, and religion together. “The Familiar” follows Luzia Cotado, a scullion living in Madrid during Spain’s “Golden Age.” Luzia has dreams though she […]

Of Earthly Delights by Goldy Moldavsky

Of Earthly Delights by Goldy Moldavsky

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Going to be very careful to not reveal anything, but wow. I thought this entire book was great. It took me til twist #1 for me to understand everything fully I had read. I went back and re-read some of the earlier portions which made everything make sense. And then happily finished this book. It’s a really good Gothic romance young adult novel. Think of “The Secret Garden” […]

What If It’s You?

What If It's You by Jilly Gagnon

April 29, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. I was hoping this would be a romance a la “About Time” and this was just way too much science and not enough romance. The main character Laurel got on my nerves and the ending was just eye roll inducing, probably because Gagnon didn’t spend enough time developing the two love interests, Ollie and Drew. “What If It’s You?” follows Laurel. Laurel feels scared and angry after she […]
