Well Met

Well Met by Jen Deluca

December 29, 2020 by Caitycat 1 Comment

I received Well Met from the CBR Gift Exchange last year. I was sent a lovely copy of the book that was autographed by the author. Well Met is the story of Emily, who is staying with her sister and niece while the sister recovers from a broken leg. One of Emily’s duties ends up being taking part in a renaissance festival. Her niece, Caitlin, can’t participate without an adult. So Emily becomes Emma the barwench. Unfortunately, Emily clashes with Simon, English teacher, director of […]

Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

December 29, 2020 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

When I heard that Suzanne Collins was writing a prequel to the Hunger Games, I was excited. What would we get to see? Haymitch’s times in the arena? A view into another district? The times before the war? There were so many exciting possibilities to choose from. When I found out it would be about a young President Snow, I was disappointed. We don’t really need to know more about him because we know he is the worst, and we don’t really need to hear […]

Tweet Cute

Tweet Cute by Emma Lord

December 29, 2020 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

Tweet Cute is a cute little story about two teenagers falling in love through the Twitter accounts of their parents’ businesses. Pepper helps run the social media for her mother’s chain restaurant, Big League Burgers. Jack posts for his father’s small deli, Girl Cheesing. When Big League Burgers steals a grilled cheese recipe from the smaller restaurant, the Twitter war is on. Soon, people take notice, but they also start to ship the pair behind the accounts. Pepper and Jack aren’t exactly friends in real […]

Ring Shout

Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark

December 29, 2020 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

Ring Shout takes place in Georgia in 1922. Segregation, Jim Crow laws, and the KKK are part of everyday life. It’s up to Maryse and her friends Sadie, a sharpshooter, and Chef, a former soldier and explosives expert, to protect the community from evil. Klu Kluxxers look like regular Klansmen on the outside, but to those with the sight, they are monsters. Maryse wields a sword, but a special sword given to her by three godlike entities that contains the energy of generations of enslaved […]

Margot is sent to an orphanage to while away her time until she turns 18, but her fortune changes when a friend of her father’s sends for her. Her father once saved his life, and the Suttons plan to return for […]

There’s Someone Inside Your House

There's Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins

December 29, 2020 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

I continued my October Spoopy Reads with There’s Someone Inside Your House. What I will say about these horror books is that I really wish there were more of a supernatural element to them, because it’s just normal people murdering and it’s kind of a bummer. Serial killers really ruin my vibe. It seems so innocent, an object in a place you didn’t expect, an open door that you swore was closed, some mysterious footprints…but it could mean a killer is in the house. In […]
