Welcome to the August check in for the Cannonball Read 18 Book Bingo Reading Challenge. It is hot where I am. I know John Green gives air conditioning only three stars in The Anthropocene Reviewed, but I was without for 6 hours today and I can assure you that it is not optional during a Texas heat wave. I hope you are all finding the perfect spots for reading.
The card, square descriptions, and rules can be found here.
Make sure I have the correct numbers for reviews! I’ve triple checked, but my tracking document was corrupted so I had to start over and I wouldn’t be surprised if I missed some. I also caught a couple of bingo reviews that weren’t tagged correctly, so make sure your reviews are tagged cbr18bingo. This should be current as of 12:00 pm eastern on Friday, August 21.

If you are having a hard time figuring out categories, let me know in the comments. Jomidi has another bingo category Comment Diversion coming in a few days, and if you’re looking for suggestions for a first book in a series, check out her July Comment Diversion.
I’ve decided to share some of my favorite explanations for why a review fits a category.
Auntadadoom’s review of Every Tom, Dick, and Harry by Elinore Lipman, “CBR18 Bingo: left, because she was left the estate sale business and also the whole thing left me cold.”
Carmelpie’s review of Knot Mine by Alice La Roux, “CBR18 Book Bingo: Middle – Zale stays in the middle, never causing problems but ignoring what he wants for the sake of popularity and fitting in.”
Classic’s review of The Secret Dinner by Raphael Montes, “You – something about you; important to you; a favorite book, author, or topic; the place where you live or have lived (or of course the word you is in the title). Well something about me is that I love horror. And this was a very solid horror novel. I tend to move to more horror when it gets increasingly dark outside and we creep closer to Halloween. This is definitely a good book to pass away your time and be horrified by what you are reading.”
Elderberrywine’s review of Vagabond: a Memoir by Tim Curry, “Clown (Because, c’mon, Pennywise!)”
Esmemoria’s review of The Twist of a Knife by Anthony Horowitz, “Character Anthony Horowitz versus Cara Grunshaw and Derek Mills, two detectives who arrest him for murder.”
Faintingviolet’s review of A Prayer for the Crown Shy by Becky Chambers, “Bingo Space: Wheels. A robot on a road trip!”
G.D. Giant’s review of The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson, “And – I’ve read two books by this author for bingo; “Mistborn” and this one.”
KimMiE”’s review of How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin, “One, because it’s first in a series. Also, it’s the only one of the series I plan to read.”
Kit Moonstar’s review of The Hearth Witch’s Guide to Magic & Murder by Kiri Callaghan, “Bingo – Craft – Saga practices witchcraft as well as knitting.”
LittlePlat’s review of The Labyrinth Index by Charles Stross, “For cbr18bingo, this one is Clowns Why? For gimp-clowns that eat your toes, that’s why. Now try and explain that to someone out of context.”
Narfna’s review of Directed by James Burrows by James Burrows, “CBR BINGO: Friends (Aside from the fact that James Burrows helped shepherd Friends into existence and directed many key episodes, all of the shows he’s famous for involve groups of friends who are as close as a family, a subject he says he gravitates toward.)”
Pooja’s review of Anacaona: Golden Flower, Haiti, 1490 by Edwidge Danticat, “CBR18 Bingo: Steal – This book tells the story of the arrival of the first conquistadors in the New World, and the start of their wanton rampaging and theft of land and gold from the people who already live there.”
Vega-table’s review of Shards of Earth by Adrian Tchaikovsky, “CBR18 Bingo – joker: because some call them the space cowboy…”
Wicherwill’s review of Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage by Belle Burden, “Sheep, because while reading this I did feel a lot like I’d been a bit of a sheeple and Belle had been too.”
Happy reviewing!
