Queer History A to Z: 100 Years of LGBTQ+ Activism by Robin Stevenson and illustrated by Vivian Rosas is a middle grade alphabet book that is also a landmine of wonder tidbits. The version I found was from 2024 and was still an online copy. However, it was not complete so I hope to find a finished copy sometime.
The list of letters and definitions are not just A is for Activist, or M is for Marsha P (though they do make an appearance) but so much more detailed, involved and creative. All types of people, places and themes come together. We have H is for the homophile movement and G is for Gay is Good. I liked that R was for Raids and Riots, V is for Village voice and Z is for Zap (what is Zap?!). People you might now like Johnson and names less familiar, like Urvashi Vaid are intertwined with concepts like censorship and activism, along with the history of words and phrases (spilling the tea) and how much came from black gay history. Also included are time lines, glossary, resources (as mentioned my edition was from 2024 so hopefully what is available is an updated version or or are still good).
The only part I am not 100% a fan of is the art. I liked them, but I would have liked to have seen them be a bit more realistic.. With that being said, they are nice and work for a more lighthearted tone as there is a lot of text filling the pages. Most letters have one page, but a few can take up two or three pages even.
