My book dealer from Barefoot Books is at it again. Several months ago I received a package of goodness (or books) and accidentally put it with my Christmas goodies, so I didn’t find it until recently. Then just the other day, I had a new package with more amazing titles. Between the two I found a few that I have read (but physical copies now) and many new ones. One of the new ones was Mindful Tots: Loving Kindness (Bilingual Vietnamese & English) (Barefoot Bilinguals) by the amazing Whitney Stewart and Rocio Alejandro as the illustrator.
I have known Whitney off and on for several years and whenever there is a new book by her, I always at least look at it. Some I love, some I like and a few I am not the audience for but I still appreciate. With this board book your child can learn about Kindness in a sweet, simple but solid way. The book comes in a variety of languages: Chinese-English, Somali-English, Arabic-English, French-English, even Haitian Creole-English, along with solo English and other unique languages. Things are cute, cozy and smooth. This is a book about mindfulness, love and caring. It has a lot happening, but also is not crowded.
Included in my goodies was Home Away from Home by Nazneen Akbari and Zamzam for Everyone: Sharing Water at Hajj by Razeen Omar Gutta. These I had both read via online reader copies, but now I have a physical copy. I won’t say too much about either book, only that I am using this as a plug for two amazing books about the Middle East and some wonderful characters. And also included was Mari and the Great Market Swap by Janelle Springer-Willms which was a book that I can’t wait to read to my great niece. It is an amazing way to talk about culture, kindness, and being clever. I also read this as a reader copy, but again a physical copy in my hand is pure joy! I love the smell and feel of a good book.
