Ages ago I read the first The Accursed Vampire graphic novel story. I do not recommend reading volume two The Accursed Vampire V02 The Curse at Witch Camp that long after reading the first and defiantly not before reading volume one. In fact, I almost don’t recommend this series by Madeline McGrane at all.
There is something about this series that is off for me. The biggest part is we bounce through the timelines of the characters and there is no warning this is happening. You are at a camp for witches (real magic wielding witches who have no issues with the fact three of the campers are vampires), then back when our characters first met, then back to camp and then someone else is talking/having something happening. Sometimes the clothing changes (there is a more modern look to at least two of the main characters, but at least one keeps the “black monk robe” all the time) helps (a little) but then I was wondering where things were again.
I wish I had a chance to read both books one and two back-to-back, and/or at least skimmed volume one again. Mostly this was because there were people and events I had forgotten. The ending allows for a book three and therefore, a chance for a read-again when/if that happens. Do note that the characters are into magic, are vampires, and there are “villains and heroes” and monsters. Sometimes things are at the edge of “spooky” and even a slight “gross out” level. This is more for the stronger reader who is into fantasy adventure, ghost stories and the like. Best for ages 10 and up, but know the reader
