I have decided to copy and paste what I have found as the publisher’s description of A Rainbow in Brown as it tells the story written by Pavonis Giron better than I can.
Jo wants to paint all the wonderful things she loves. With a palette of red, yellow, and blue, Jo knows she can mix any colors together to create new ones. Her imagination takes flight as she explores painting with primary and by mixing her own secondary colors, each picture as beautiful as the last. But through her exploration of the colors of the rainbow, Jo finds that her favorite is a combination of them all: brown.
What really grabbed my attention was the illustrations. The colors. It is not often that brown is really as lovely as it is portrayed here. Giron’s work is terribly simple, but in a complex manner. There is fun, light, colors, goofy, flowing, silly, lovely, works that just bounce. What is your favorite color? Well, we see them all here, and then brown. Brown does not get a lot of love as a favorite color. But this time it does. Why? Well it combines all the colors and it helps Jo show off herself and her family in their own special way.
I think the artwork is in the top 10 of my favorite so far this year (2024). The boldness and brightness of them is warm and cozy, plus bold and exciting.
