That part of the story is from book one, where we learn that Tara is an alien from a world of aggressive lizard people and learned that we are not alone on Earth, as many alien beings have come to Earth and are leaving their teens with us in a boarding school. As good as book two is, it is best to read book one first as we pick up in two where the action left off in one. And since Jamie Noguchi is back on illustrations, the flow will not be off as sometimes follow up volumes can have with new artists.
Book two allows us to find out what happens after the Girls School was destroyed (thanks Tara, your friends and your fake parents). They will do this semester at the boys’ school. Which of course means they get to see that inequality of the sexes is even in space. A nicer, cleaner, warmer, more awesomer campus awaits them. But better facilities are not the only thing they will deal with. They can add hormones, lies, secrets and possible loss of friendships as well. Not to mention we dip our toes into the world of prejudices and feeling comfortable with your true self.
There is a lot of buildup to the finale, yet, the final battle was quick. There needed to be a smidge “more” to that, but it is still a fun continuation from book one and honestly as good as book one. Ending on a cliffhanger, I really hope I do not have to wait another two years for book three! (And I’ll take it as a reader copy online like I have with this one).
