DNF at 10 Percent

They Thirst by Robert McCammon

October 29, 2019 by Classic 1 Comment

I did not finish this at 10 percent. I got nothing to say besides the writing hurt my head. I either love Robert R. McCammon or I don’t. This is definitely one of the ones I don’t love. There is too much thrown out and none of it makes much sense. This is a shame though because the prologue was so freaking good. And then when it moves to LA I just started to feel overwhelmed. Since I only got up to 10 percent I […]

First of 3 potential Halloween reads

Johannes Cabal the Necromancer by Jonathan L. Howard

October 28, 2019 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I had to go back through old reviews to see if I’d done this one before, and it turns out that 1) I seem to have done the rest of the series but not this first novel, and 2) a novel from this series was close to my first ever Cannonballer review (third one I think). Good times. I decided to re-read this for 2 reasons: 1) I wanted to do a Halloween read that was not Cassidy Blake 2 because I’m saving that for […]

Angels Rule the World

Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh

October 20, 2019 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

After reading Nalini Singh’s short story in Burning Up, I delved into her Archangel series starting with Angels’ Blood. The author celebrated a birthday on Sept 7th. I’m already on the third entry, so it was mere luck I was able to use this review for the Birthday #CBR11Bingo square. We are introduced to Elena Deveraux, a fierce vampire hunter who was born (or cursed according to her father) with the power to track vampires my scent. In this reality, angels are out in the […]

There isn’t really peace when you are done

Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell

October 19, 2019 by Malin 2 Comments

4.5 stars Spoiler warning! This is the second book in a series, and this review will contain spoilers for the first book, Carry On. If you haven’t already read it, you should do yourself a favour and do so. Simon Snow was the Chosen One, destined to bring an end to the threat to all magic. Of course, it turned out that he himself was in fact the thing that was threatening the magic in the first place, and his mentor/father figure (and actual biological father, although none […]

Summer is perfect for hot romance short stories

Burning Up by Nalini Singh, Angela Knight, Mejean Brooks, Virginia Kantra

August 10, 2019 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

When reading a long series, it’s nice to take a break with a genre collection under an interesting theme. Burning Up brings together four authors who know how to bring the heat to a supernatural romance! As I heard only great things about Nalini Singh, I decided to bring this on my adult spring break trip to Hawaii. I procrastinated on my review and realized this is perfect for my Summer Reads bingo square. I highly recommend powering through a sexy anthology on the plane. […]

My Prediction/Request Came True!

Competence by Gail Carriger

August 2, 2019 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo 11 (Travel) I waited until almost the next book in the series release to read Imprudence, the prequel to Competence. I waited until almost the next book in the series release to read Competence because I hadn’t enjoyed Imprudence as much as previous novels by Gail Carriger. In my review of Imprudence I remember stating that I wished that the next novel wouldn’t focus on Rue because she’d started to annoy me. Ms. Carriger seems to have heard my plea (because of course she […]
