I really wanted to enjoy this book more. There was a lot of hype around it last year with the premier of the show, but when it came down to it, it just wasn’t for me. If I hadn’t already read (and been blown away by) the first two books in this series earlier this year, I would have been very impressed with this book. But as it is, even though it is very good and exciting and has great characters and poignant themes and hints at even more to come, it pales when compared to the complexity and madcap storytelling of Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion. I mean. Come on. Just, this author did not have to do any work at all in selling this book to a publisher. And the publisher had no trouble marketing it. Obviously. Time-traveling serial killer sells itself. All this book had to do was show up and it would have been popular, just because we all wanted to read the book about the time-traveling serial killer.
