‘“There is nothing to talk about” she said. “I’m just a freak that’s all.”’

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

June 5, 2022 by Pooja 7 Comments

After being convicted of libel, Mikael Blomkvist is hired to investigate the decades-old disappearance of Harriet Vanger, a teenage heiress, with the help of Lisbeth Salander. I read this book a long while ago, but very few things clung in my mind. Certainly not the length, or the amount of time that was devoted to the financial intrigue aspect. Also all the pedantic sandwich making and eating! First, the good. The mystery of Harriet Vanger is a fascinating one and hard to guess the truth […]

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

A satisfying end to the year’s re-read

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson

**there are spoilers for book 2 in this review** I am finally done with my Millennium trilogy re-read. And I have to say, the whole thing holds up. I am again having a similar issue with book two, in that I finished it a couple of weeks ago and it seems to be rapidly slipping from my mind, but that’s okay. It gives me the chance to re-read it again and be surprised 10 years from now. So let’s see. The third book in the […]

Another solid re-read

The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson

March 31, 2021 by postcardsandbooks 2 Comments

So I’ve reached the second installment in this trilogy, and I finished almost a month ago and for some reason I have yet to write a review and now the details are slipping from my brain… So lets try this. I enjoyed re-reading this book. It was almost like I was reading it for the first time, because I had honestly wiped the entire thing from my mind. And the funny thing is that again I feel like it’s already slipping away and I haven’t […]

Do your favourites hold up on re-reads?

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

So I first read this book almost exactly 10 years ago. And I LOVED it. I binged the entire series in under a week while lounging on the beach on holiday. And once I got home, I proceeded to try and convince the entire world and their mothers to read it too. This was a 5-star read for 20-something me if ever there was one. So when this book was chosen as this month’s buddy read in a server I particularly enjoy, I was both […]

I’m just here for Lisbeth

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

October 2, 2020 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was my Mocha Girls Read book club pick for May with the theme of Scandanavian Mystery. When the original book came out, I was aware of the hype but opted for the film adaptations. I enjoy all incarnations, so I figured the novel would grip me. Instead, I found myself getting a bit impatient with the plot when it didn’t focus on the titular “The Girl”. The story follows a journalist named Mikael Blomkvist who has been hired by […]

“From a purely physical standpoint she didn’t have a chance, but her attitude was that death was better than capitulation.”

The Girl Who Played With Fire (Millennium, #2) by Stieg Larsson

This whole re-read  review is chock full of spoilers. I want to talk more about Dragan Armansky’s idea that Lisbeth is the perfect victim. I touched on it in my 2012 review, but it has stayed with me. Everything in this book points to him being right. Lisbeth’s past, and current events involving the triple murders that Lisbeth is blamed and hunted for, they perfectly prime her to be someone who is easily blamed or taken advantage of. The first thing being she doesn’t trust […]
