I unexpectedly fell in love with this one day.

Drunk on All Your Strange New Words by Eddie Robson

August 19, 2022 by narfna 2 Comments

Thanks to NetGalley and Recorded Books for the audio ARC. It hasn’t affected the content of my review. Firstly, I’m going to apologize in advance because this review might end up being the equivalent of one of those annoying YouTube comments where some genius pops in to be like “FIRST!” and sometimes they’re not even first but they’re so proud of themselves anyway. I hope I don’t descend to that level but I can’t promise anything because I had such a good time with this […]

Sword Stone Table: Old Legends, New Voices by Eds. Swapna Krishna and Jenn Northington

This is one of the best anthologies I’ve ever read. If you like Arthuriana, this is a must read. If you like anthologies just for the variety, this collection is a winner. I don’t think I will ever give an anthology five stars, because I’ve yet to find one where I like every story, but this one comes pretty close. There were only two stories in here I didn’t like. What makes Sword Stone Table so great is that the authors chosen really had their creativity flowing. […]

“We’re like children . . . who burn their hands on a hot stove and then think the solution is to blow up all the stoves.”

Abaddon's Gate (The Expanse, #3) by James S.A. Corey

Yeah, five stars. I knew this was going to happen, that I would feel the need to give this one five stars after a re-read, because this is the book that made me fall in love with the series. I’m not sure what it is about it exactly that makes me like it more than the first two books, which I like a lot (five stars worth now for #1!). This story just has such a clear purpose, a clear arc, and wild stuff happens […]

I don’t want to review this, f*** you.

Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

30 Books in 30 Days, Vol. 2 Book 28/30 It’s too good! I loved it too much! This is like how I put off watching The Falcon and the Winter Soldier because I love Bucky too much. My feelings, THEY CANNOT BE CONTAINED WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE ME CONTAIN THEM. I was going to try and re-read this before I reviewed it to try and make some thoughts more thoughtful and coherent, but I just don’t have the time right now, even though […]

“This isn’t fun. It isn’t exciting. I walked into adventure and adventure has given me blisters.”

Stray (Touchstone, #1) by Andrea K. Höst

May 17, 2022 by narfna 3 Comments

30 Books in 30 Days, Vol. 2 Book 8/30 It actually took me quite a bit to get through this one, despite how much I enjoyed it, but I’m blaming that on the fact that I had downloaded the free Kindle edition years and years ago, and Kindle books for non-romances are always iffy with my attention span for some reason. But this really was good! Pretty unlike any other YA sci-fi I’ve read, a unique reading experience. (I’m going to try and track down […]

First contact, near-past historical science fiction.

Axiom's End (Noumena, #1) by Lindsay Ellis

May 15, 2022 by narfna 2 Comments

30 Books in 30 Days, Vol. 2 Book 1/30 I don’t even really know what I want to say about this one! It wasn’t what I was expecting, even though I didn’t think I was going in expecting anything. Figure that one out. All I knew was that it was a First Contact story, and I liked the cover. I think I also might have known it took place in 2007. Our main character is twenty-one year old Cora*, whose father is basically an answer […]
