Listen to your guts

Science Comics: The Digestive System: A Tour Through Your Guts by Jason Viola

December 14, 2021 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

I was going to use this Science Comics: The Digestive System: A Tour Through Your Guts by Jason Viola for the Bingo Machine category. But I had a hard time finishing the book. Not because it was bad, but because I had little interest in the subject (which is why I tried it. If I could learn something or enjoy it, then I knew it was a good book). But that means I need to concentrate on things, making me take my time to get […]

“Thanks to their neural plasticity, their ability to shift and change their connections with other cells, you and I walk the earth with the ability to be flexible in our thinking, adaptable to our environment, and capable of choosing who and how we want to be in the world. Fortunately, how we choose to be today is not predetermined by how we were yesterday.”

A list of books are fun titles

Click V02 Camp by Kayla Miller

One Wish: Fatima Al-Fihri and the World’s Oldest University by M.O. Yuksel

Invasion of the Unicorns by David Biedrzycki

The Last Straw by Zoe Matthiessen

This list of books are fun titles that I am unable to write a full review of. Therefore, I am giving highlights of one graphic novel and three picture books. After you say, “a fun story of friends and summer camp” you have pretty much said it all about Click V02 Camp by Kayla Miller. I should add it is a graphic novel with the cover giving you pretty much all you need to know about the illustrations. They are colorful and funny. There is […]

No ifs ands or butts about it, I like to toot my own horn and say I like these science books!

Battle of the Butts: The Science Behind Animal Behinds by Jocelyn Rish

Does It Fart? A Kid's Guide to the Gas Animals Pass by Nick Caruso and Dani Rabaiotti

November 24, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

This review will give you two science books for the humorous side of your reader interested in nontraditional facts about animals. However, I focus more on the first as it was my favoirte of the two. Battle of the Butts: The Science Behind Animal Behinds by Jocelyn Rish and illustrated by David Creighton-Pester is a humorous and educational picture book that gives you the poop on farts, butts and the animals that have them. From killer posteriors to beach building tushes, it is all here. […]

Frankenslime by Joy Keller

November 10, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

To understand my feelings on Frankenslime by Joy Keller you must understand a personality quirk: I can “taste” the words. Not physically of course, but I like to chew on them in my mind. And they started out dry. Very dry. Where was this obviously Frankenstein (and later you will see The Blob references) spoof going? When the dog named Igor is the best thing, you hope it picks up. When I realized that the ending was going to be an almost pee-your-pants funny, I […]

Airframe by Michael Crichton

October 27, 2021 by narfna Leave a Comment

This is the epitome of a three star read. I liked it overall, but it was very dated, and has that signature Crichton lack of character development in favor of extreme technical detail. About 200 pages from the end, though, the tension really picked up, and I did end up enjoying it. This is essentially a book about the aftermath of an airplane disaster in which there are fifty-six casualties, and three deaths. The incident comes at a very bad time for Norton Aircraft, who […]

I really enjoyed this one. I was particularly amused at Lady Catherine deBoutgh’s disgust at her assassin’s incompetence.
