The Main Line continues to get dumped on

Wicked by Sara Shepard

January 29, 2019 by Manimama Leave a Comment

The Pretty Little Liars series is marketed as Young Adult mystery, but I think that it may have been wrongly classified. Five books in, I am convinced that the only explanation for the behavior of many of the characters in the books is possession by evil spirits. Wicked is a continuation of the story begun in Pretty Little Liars. The first four books solve the mystery of the identity of ‘A’, a malevolent ghoul embodied by a superficial, text-obsessed teenage girl. Wicked is the fifth installment of this […]

Unbelievable by Sara Shepard

I’ve never seen this television show. My daughter got these books from a friend but hasn’t gotten around to reading them so I swiped them from her bookshelf. The first book in the series is Pretty Little Liars. It introduces the characters and plot of the following books. The story takes place in the Northwest Philadelphia suburbs and follows four high school juniors as they navigate the new school year, teenage drama, and the mysterious notes and text messages that are being sent to them from […]

Thank you, Julie Murphy, for continuously not sucking.

Meet Cute by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Dhonielle Clayton, Katie Cotugno, Jocelyn Davies, Huntley Fitzpatrick, Nina LaCour, Emery Lord, Katharine McGee, Kass Morgan, Julie Murphy, Meredith Russo, Sara Shepard, Nicola Yoon, Ibi Zoboi

I’m sorry to say that Meet Cute was my biggest reading disappointment of 2018 so far. It had everything I thought I wanted: how-we-met short stories from some of the best YA authors out there — including Julie freaking Murphy — and a recommendation from Rainbow Rowell. I assumed it would be a delight. And some of it was. I had never heard of Ibi Zoboi, but her story “Hourglass” was my favorite of the bunch. She told a story about Cherish, a tall African-American […]

Pretty Little Liars: Pretty Little Secrets

Pretty Little Liars: Pretty Little Secrets by Sara Shepard

February 26, 2017 by Ealbrecht Leave a Comment

This book takes place between two other books in the Pretty Little Liars series, between Unbelievable and Wicked. Having bought the first half set together, this book was not included, so this book was written later.  Hannah, Emily, Aria, and Spencer’s story is each told over Christmas is Rosewood, Pennsylvania. We begin with Hannah’s secret. Hannah’s father is moving in with his new wife Isabel, and her step-sister Kate. Hannah’s mother has taken a job overseas, allowing space for her father to move into the […]
