“If I can only use my magic when you deem it safe, does that magic belong to me, or you?”

The Midnight Bargain by C.L. Polk

30 Books in 30 Days, Vol. 3 Book 2/30 Whoops, I slept on this one. Should have read it sooner! Because it was a delight. You know, if you’re defining “delight” as something that purposefully stokes your anger and your sense of righteousness by making you feel protective of the civil rights and bodily autonomy of fictional characters. With magic! So I guess that is how I define “delight.” I’m not going to go too deep into the world here because part of the fun […]

CBRBINGO – POLITICS: A cinnamon roll vampire love interest, and some great fantasy worldbuilding.

Blood Mercy (Blood Grace, #1) by Vela Roth

I really, really liked this. A slow burn fantasy romance where the fantasy is incredibly detailed and satisfying. We’re living the dream! Blood Mercy is the first book in a self-published fantasy romance series. Cassia is our main character, and she is the bastard daughter of a king (a terrible, tyrannical, cruel king). She normally tries to stay away from court in order to stay away from her father, but a once in a lifetime event is about to occur and she needs to be […]

I have a five-star killing trope to shake my fist at.

Yours Truly (Part of Your World, #2) by Abby Jimenez

[Insert Tyra Banks here. “We were rooting for you. We were all rooting for you!”] I just, I wanted to give this book five stars so very badly. Halfway through, I was absolutely ready to slap that five-star rating on it. And then the Miscommunication Trope came calling, and it was one of the worst examples I’ve ever seen. And I just couldn’t give it five stars anymore. I’m super sad about it. But this book is absolutely still worth reading! Just prep yourself for […]

“He’s tough because he’s never had a soft place to land.”

Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn

I’m sitting here trying to remember the details of this book, which I clearly loved at the time (May), but all I can do is remember certain scenes and the feelings in general that the book gave me. So pardon the short review, I won’t have much to say beyond: this was a great romance novel and I enjoyed it a lot. Georgie, our main character, is temporarily moving back home with no clear idea of what her future is going to look like. When […]

Very Tired Pawns

Cruel Seduction by Katee Robert

CBR 15 Bingo- Getaway: Not that I mind thinking about South America, but I simply don’t have any book coming up that’s related to it, and I want to black out my bingo board! I supposed Katee Robert’s work is pretty escapist too. Eris must wed Theseus, who made his way into the Thirteen through murder, to keep a closer eye on him. To irk him she takes up with his best friend Pandora; to irk her he takes up with her ex-boyfriend Adonis. But […]

A promising start to a fun fantasy series
