Cute contemporary, bantery, love to hate to love romance.

June 7, 2018 by narfna Leave a Comment

This book isn’t normally my genre (contemporary, or contemporary romance). But I make exceptions if I’ve read and liked books by the author before, or if someone whose tastes that are similar to mine says a book is worth checking out. Dating You / Hating You fits into both categories. I loved this author duo’s YA book Autoboyography when I read it last month, and this book in particular was a favorite of y’all here at the CBR romance reading hivemind when it first came […]

I don’t have to put up with this! I’m rich!

May 27, 2018 by kdm 4 Comments

I decided to step outside my comfort zone and pick up Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan in anticipation of the incredibly-cast movie coming out this year. (Constance Wu in ALL of the things!) After a brief prologue story to set up just how crazy rich these families are, we get to our main characters: Nick Young and Rachel Chu, enjoying their relatively simple lives in New York City.  Two professors at NYU (history and economics, respectively), they’ve been dating for 2 years when Nick […]

Lois Pulled a Bait-and-Switch on Me

May 27, 2018 by LittlePlat 1 Comment

So, I am more than familiar with LMB’s two main series – The Vorkosigan Saga (Which is mostly a space opera), and her books set in the world of the Five Gods. (Which are a sort of semi-medieval fantasy.) What I’ve been slow to pick up though is her Sharing Knife series. Mostly because they are almost impossible to find in print! I’ve never stumbled on these books in a bookshop and had to go searching really hard across libraries to find a hard […]

A discovery of the world’s most boring witch

May 12, 2018 by TheShitWizard 20 Comments

I don’t know how I came to buy this, but I expect that the promise of an epic set in a world of magic may have had something to do with. Sadly, it turned out that this magical epic was instead epically boring, starring the dullest witches and vampires I’ve ever had the misfortune to read about. Diana is an academic, studying the history of science and, in particular, alchemy. Apparently from a long line of witches, Diana has tried to steer clear of magic […]

“Everything feels yes.”

May 3, 2018 by narfna 8 Comments

I thought this was lovely, and I’m so glad I picked it up on a whim. I really only have two complaints. I had such a good time reading it, I put it on my wishlist immediately, and can see myself upping this to five stars in the future when maybe those complaints won’t matter as much to me. This is a young adult coming of age romance between two boys. One (Tanner) is a bisexual eighteen-year old whose family moved to Provo, Utah when […]

A non-binary Regency romance.

April 27, 2018 by narfna Leave a Comment

Okay, so even if this is the first book of hers that hasn’t made me drool with unbridled enthusiasm, I still really enjoyed it, and it’s clear to me that Cat Sebastian is going to continue to publish books that I will enjoy reading. I think maybe I was just expecting a lot more from this than it was capable of giving? I don’t know. It’s also the first non M/M book of hers I read, but I don’t think that’s why I didn’t enjoy […]

I was agog after reading that sentence. Could not read on for five minutes. I mean, wtf.

“Skin covered finger bones”—that’s hilarious. This was a very satisfying review.
