A Heart That Hurts Is

A Heart That Works by Rob Delaney

January 29, 2023 by Carriejay 4 Comments

Comedian and actor Rob Delaney moved from Los Angeles to London with his wife and family to write and star in the tv series Catastrophe. They settle in, but when their youngest child, who had been born in London, is a year old, he is diagnosed with a brain tumour. He dies aged two. The book relates, beautifully, the stages of Henry’s life. The initial culture clashes that come from being Americans in the UK; navigating the intricacies of the NHS for his birth; the […]

I don’t want to review this book.

February 21, 2017 by Blingle Bells 3 Comments

This brief audiobook gave me a bit of  an existential crisis. It’s billed as  a funny memoir-type-thing written by a comedian. It says so right on the cover. This book had some great elements that just did not come together in any cohesive way

Rob Delaney is apparently the funniest man on Twitter. I am not on Twitter, but I recognized some of the tweets in this book, so he must be funny enough to register on my non-Twitter radar. He acts, some. He’s also a decent writer, with a very sad and painful history of alcoholism that has led him to some very bad decision-making. Unfortunately, he combines all these elements (humor, career, alcoholism, stupid stunts) into one short collection of stories, with no sense of direction or cohesion. “I […]

For your Pajiba 10 Consideration: Hunky Hairy Feminist

October 31, 2016 by AkBeagle Leave a Comment

In the interest of full disclosure and some not so humble bragging, Rob Delany retweeted a tweet of mine.  It was from my work account about Medicaid expansion, but nevertheless, I consider it the high point of my professional social media career.  This experience alone would have compelled me to purchase his book.  But in addition to being hilarious on twitter, Rob is the co-creator of Catastrophe.  This show, available on Amazon Prime, is hilarious and heartbreaking and hits too close to home sometimes. Rob […]

Yes, I am fun at parties. I too like parties where discussions on hierarchy and oppression abound!

I love this series so much. It is ridiculous and defies serious reviewing. It’s got a lot of flaws and...
