An easy summer sampler of delightful and improbable scenarios

Best Women's Erotica of the Year (Best Women's Erotica Series Book 7) by Rachel Kramer Bussel

CBR15Bingo: Bodies Bodies CBR15Passport: Recommended to me I have Emmalita and her review of Best Women’s Erotica of the Year, Volume 8 to thank for turning me onto this collection. Volume 7 did not disappoint. I keep trying to come up with a good metaphor using chocolate but I’m at a loss. After reading the first three short stories in linear fashion, I quickly learned that skipping around a bit was more suited to my reading style. Each story is self-contained, therefore it is easy […]

Fried Chicken and “Wild Geese”

Best Women's Erotica of the Year, Volume 8 by Rachel Kramer Bussel,

I read erotica for several reasons. One of them is political. Accusations of pornography are thrown around when pushing back against the (small) gains in representation made by BIPOC and queer authors. Side note, a friend told me the parent group at her kids’ school had to argue with someone who claimed the description of a child eating a mango was pornographic. The reasonable parents prevailed, but in too many communities the unreasonable people are succeeding. I’m happy to frustrate a bigot by supporting my […]

Cannonball Read After Dark: Surprise!

Best Women's Erotica of the Year, Volume 7 by Rachel Kramer Bussel

November 26, 2021 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

You can trust that Rachel Kramer Bussel is going to put together a good anthology. Best Women’s Erotica of the Year, Volume 7 is thoughtful with a wide range of stories. I don’t expect to like every story in an anthology, and erotica is tougher because it taps into a place that can be rawly personal. When Kramer Bussel puts an anthology together, I know I will at least appreciate most of the stories. My only complaint about the book is one I frequently have about […]

The Theme is Adventure

Best Women's Erotica of the Year, Volume 6 by Rachel Kramer Bussel

I didn’t entirely consider that I would be writing a review of erotica for the Cannonball Read audience when I requested Rachel Kramer Bussel’s Best Women’s Erotica of the Year, Volume 6 from NetGalley. I just thought about how much I wanted to read it. I got a copy of this arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I don’t generally review erotica because to do so in a meaningful way would get rather more revelatory than I usually do. With an anthology […]
