“I like stories where women save themselves.”

The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman

April 24, 2019 by cosbrarian Leave a Comment

Gaiman smushes the stories of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty together in this gorgeously illustrated novella.  The setting of the book is sometime after Snow White is awakened from her coffin and at the 100 year mark after Sleeping Beauty’s curse set in. But the stakes are raised when the sleeping sickness that has fallen on the princess and her kingdom is spreading out further and further as the curse lingers.  Several of the dwarves bring this to their queen, and conveniently she is looking […]

Pancakes. Jello Shots. “Uptown Funk”.

Delicious! by Ruth Reichl

January 23, 2019 by janet snakehole 2 Comments

Swedish Fish. Movie Popcorn. My mom’s fudge that she makes every Christmas (sorry Mom). This is a list of things that I love SO VERY VERY much at first and I simply cannot get enough!!, but then OHHHH GODDDD I’m super sick of it. That’s exactly the list to which I am adding this sweet, charming but hooo-boy overly long book. It was just a little- actually quite a bit- too much and I should’ve quit while I was ahead. I have to say, I […]

Loveable Like Regarding Henry and Overboard

March 6, 2015 by Melina Leave a Comment

I had a whirlwind romance. I met my husband, proposed to him at 4 months and was married in Vegas by 6 six months. Being pragmatic, I only spent $35.99 on the wedding, you know, just in case it didn’t work out.  He’s the peas to my carrots, the beat to my melody, and while I occasionally want to throttle him;it’s been a pretty magical 9 years. So, when reading this book I could draw some parallels because I am happily married with three […]

“Actually you have a problem with Veronica, you’re pretty much dead to me so just like evaporate or something, I don’t know”

September 14, 2014 by NTE 2 Comments

We last left Veronica Mars back in her hometown of Neptune, California, following (Spoilers for the VM movie) a case that involved her on again/off again/epic love interest Logan Echolls, a high school reunion for the ages, and some people with a grudge against her dad. Since that adventure, Veronica has decided to stay & work at Mars Investigations, but the beginning of The Thousand Dollar Tan Line finds that Spring Break in Neptune is not exactly old-home week. There’s a distinct lack of casework […]
