If You Are Wondering How Awesome Leia Was in Her Forties

May 31, 2017 by faintingviolet 1 Comment

I’m not sure how to review this book. Bloodline is the first time that I have ever read a novel set in the Star Wars universe. Or, really, any universe that I knew first from movies. I was not a kid who stalked the science fiction and fantasy aisles of libraries of bookstores looking for the next hit of my favorite universes. As far as I knew, the movies were all there was and I was happy to revisit the story of Leia, Han, and […]

Shitty ex’s and poorly written poetry

February 10, 2017 by Lindzgrl 2 Comments

I’m not the target demographic for this book. I’m not a huge fan of memoirs/autobiographies in general, and while I am a big fan of Star Wars, I didn’t see the movies until I was older and Princess Leia was not a foundational fictional character in my youth. I didn’t idolize Carrie Fisher and I never had any desire to meet her or get her autograph (although, of course, if I had run into her in a store somewhere I would have likely been star-struck). […]

We Are Alderaan

January 17, 2017 by Emmalita 6 Comments

Beginning with the award ceremony on Yavin 4, Princess Leia tells the story of Leia’s mission to save what remained of Alderaan, the people who had settled on other worlds. Leia and fellow Alderaanian Rebel, Evaan, set out to reunite the diaspora as the Empire threatens to wipe out all surviving Alderaanians. It wasn’t a bad story, but it had weaknesses not found in Darth Vader or Chewbacca. It didn’t really make sense to me that Leia would try to gather the survivors in one spot. It seems […]

Princess Leia takes center stage in the excellent Star Wars: Bloodline

January 13, 2017 by TylerDFC 4 Comments

This new iteration of Star Wars since Disney purchased them a few years back is not the Star Wars that we grew up on. While The Force Awakens largely played it safe there were a few key differences that have set the continuation of the story apart. First, most of the characters exist in a moral gray area now. The days of the EVEEL Emperor and sneering Imperial toadies is largely behind us.  Secondly, these stories are primarily female driven. So far both of the […]

Yes, five fully earned stars to this Star Wars book.

August 11, 2016 by narfna 3 Comments

Okay, so it’s been two months since I finished this book, but I remember so clearly the feeling of finishing it and sort of being gobsmacked at how good it was. Not that it’s flashy or anything. I’m not going to claim this book will change your life, or even change the way you look at reading or anything hyperbolic like that, but it did kind of change the way I look at Star Wars books. Claudia Gray just GETS Star Wars. I read her first […]
