We’re incandescent. I believe you and I will ignite the entire sky between us.”

Forever Your Rogue by Erin Langston

May 22, 2023 by Emmalita 3 Comments

I picked up Forever Your Rogue because @melon_reads loved it. I don’t read much Regency(ish) romance these days, and as much as I enjoyed this one, I also struggled to stay with it. Servants, the legal status of women, and stratification of the classes are some of the reasons I’m less interested in historical romance. I was able to stay with this one partly because I knew that the author was inspired to write by a legal case in which a mother attempted to gain […]

Sometimes knowing things can ruin the ending, but it’s still a good book

Shimmy Bang Sparkle by Nicola Rendell

March 11, 2023 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I loved this until the last 5th of the book when my real world knowledge got in the way. I love a heist, so diamond thieves hooking up to commit acts of Robin Hood is entirely my jam. Heist romances require leaps of faith and unfortunately this one required too big a leap for me at the end. That said, it was a really fun ride and I do recommend it. Nick is trying to be a reformed jewel thief. He is out on parole […]

These Alien Skies

Finishing the Black Stars series

These Alien Skies by C. T. Rwizi

We Travel the Spaceways by Victor LaValle

2043...(A Merman I Should Turn to Be) by Nisi Shawl

July 25, 2022 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

Getting back on my reviews with Cannonball Read 14 Bingo! I liked all three of the remaining stories from the Black Stars anthology. I highly recommend you check them out on audiobook. Bingo Square: Star “These Alien Skies” was my favorite story from this round. Two human space explorers are sent through a wormhole on a mission to find habitable worlds. Before we can really get to know Msizi and Tariro, an accidental explosion (or was it) sends their ship crash landing on a planet […]

Can a romance be horny and slow burn?

The Astronaut and the Star by Jen Comfort

May 27, 2022 by Emmalita 9 Comments

Jen Comfort’s debut romance, The Astronaut and the Star was delightfully frothy and horny. Reggie desperately wants to be chosen for an upcoming lunar mission. She wants to be the first woman to walk on the moon, but she is nowhere near the short list. Between a PR gaffe and her perfectionism, the bosses at NASA don’t think she can get along with the other mission astronauts. She needs to prove she can be patient, a team player, and bring in good publicity. Jon has […]

Ahh, Lester Bangs. Or at least, Philip Seymour Hoffman as Lester Bangs via Cameron Crowe in Almost Famous. Did I just grab this quote because it features the word “currency”? Well…yes and no. Currency, my latest dive into Amazon Original Stories (but not the latest collection released) describes itself as being about “friends, trends, and dividends”. The link between these eight stories is the currency between people; social, professional, and personal transactions made when money is too much to offer or not enough to cover. The players […]

I Have a List Of Grievances

Three Blind Dates, Two Wedding Crashers by Meghan Quinn

April 10, 2018 by Emmalita 8 Comments

I joined Kindle Unlimited and went on a terrible romance spree. I’m not even bothering with most of the books, but Meghan Quinn’s Dating by Numbers series irritated me enough that I have compiled a list of grievances. In Three Blind Dates, Noely Clark is looking for a way to find love without trusting her terrible taste in men. She signs up for a new matchmaker service that comes with it’s own restaurant and dating app. Noely is the cohost of a morning show in […]
