June 21, 2021 by Zirza Leave a Comment

Attorney Leigh Collier is attending a recital at her daughter’s fancy private school when she’s called in by her boss. Andrew Tennant, a wealthy client’s son, stands accuse of aggravated sexual assault and has specifically requested Leigh defend him. It takes Leigh a while, but then she recognises Andrew as the little boy she used to babysit – the little boy whose father she and her sister murdered twenty years earlier. All the good things about her had to be taken away, too.

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

December 13, 2020 by Leedock 2 Comments

My stay at home obsession with the My Favorite Murder podcast led me to this title. Not something that I would generally read, but Georgia Hardstark’s ringing endorsement nudged me to give it a try. Not sure that it was really my bag, but I can see the appeal for some true crime fiends. Over two decades after their older sister’s disappearance, her two estranged siblings find themselves confronting the trauma of their childhood all over again. The youngest sister, Claire, is living a privileged life of […]

The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter

June 13, 2020 by Zirza 3 Comments

Allow me to give you a brief summary of the plot of THE SILENT WIFE: it’s pretty much rapey rapey stabby stabby, blood, guts, gore galore. It’s that kind of book. If you can get past that (and if you can’t, I won’t hold it against you) there’s decent writing and rounded characters, a bit of character assassination, a couple of plot holes and a whole lotta cops being unprofessional.  In The Silent Wife, Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents Will Trent and Faith Mitchell and […]

Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter

December 29, 2019 by Zirza Leave a Comment

Anything by Karin Slaughter, and this book in particular, should come with a trigger warning, so just so you know: MASSIVE TRIGGER WARNING.  In the small, sleepy town of Heartsdale, GA, pediatrician and sometime medical examiner Sara Linton is having an uncomfortable lunch with her nosy sister. When she goes off to the bathroom, she finds a woman bleeding to death. She’s been gruesomely assaulted and within minutes, she dies. It’s up to Sara and her ex-husband, Chief of Police Jeffrey Tolliver, to find the […]

A Faint Cold Fear by Karin Slaughter

September 5, 2019 by Zirza Leave a Comment

On a sweltering summer afternoon, medical examiner Sara Linton is called in to examine a suspected suicide at the nearby college. With her very pregnant sister in tow, she sets out to examine the body. But then the sister is stabbed and suicide becomes increasingly less likely. Chief of Police Jeffrey Tolliver – Sara’s on again, off again significant other – struggles to make headway into the case. First and foremost in his crosshairs is his former subordinate, Lena Adams. Now working as campus security, […]

Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter

August 6, 2019 by Sophia 1 Comment

I stumbled upon Cop Town by Karin Slaughter about five years ago and really enjoyed it–much more than I was expecting. So, when I saw one of Slaughter’s latest books, Pieces of Her (2018), out on book shelves, I put it on hold at the library. Like Cop Town, Pieces of Her is a page-turning fest of violence and intrigue. I think I read it in about one day, and I had a hard time putting it down. However, I still prefer Cop Town, which felt a little more realistic and was more […]
