I Hate Sara Linton, Part Infinity

Genesis by Karin Slaughter

October 19, 2022 by Zirza 25 Comments

On a dark, quiet night in the Georgian countryside, just outside of Atlanta, an older couple drives in silence, both lost in thought, when suddenly a nude woman runs into their car. Her injuries are horrific and can’t be explained by the car crash alone. But what is she doing alone in the forest at night? And why isn’t she wearing any clothes?  Genesis is the third book in Karin Slaughter’s Will Trent series. It’s also where she re-introduces characters from her Grant County series […]

The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter

June 13, 2020 by Zirza 3 Comments

Allow me to give you a brief summary of the plot of THE SILENT WIFE: it’s pretty much rapey rapey stabby stabby, blood, guts, gore galore. It’s that kind of book. If you can get past that (and if you can’t, I won’t hold it against you) there’s decent writing and rounded characters, a bit of character assassination, a couple of plot holes and a whole lotta cops being unprofessional.  In The Silent Wife, Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents Will Trent and Faith Mitchell and […]

Team Lena, Y’all

October 13, 2016 by Zirza Leave a Comment

In the first few pages of the book, one of the characters faces two armed home intruders and manages to kill one and incapacitate the other with a hammer. In her underwear. Ladies and gentelemen, meet Lena Adams, professional tough cookie, habitual fuck-up, sourpuss extraordinaire. Also: yes, Slaughter is the author’s real name and yes, it’s that kind of book. Unseen is the seventh installment of Slaughter’s Will Trent series, and it shows; there is a lot of backstory between the main characters, and though […]

I reject your heroine and substitute my own, part II: the ginger mollusc

June 20, 2016 by Zirza 3 Comments

I really like Karin Slaughter. I’m not generally a thriller reader, but I make an exception for her books. Every year, I eagerly await her next novel, whether it’s a standalone or a new instalment of her series. She has a nice turn of phrase and her work, especially the earlier stuff, has traces of southern gothic running through it. She’s no Faulkner but hell, if I wanted Faulkner I’d read Faulkner. I read Slaughter because it’s fun. Gory, gruesome, over-the-top fun. Cop Town was […]
