“There isn’t ever going to be an end,” she said. “The point is that people have to continue always speaking up and not being afraid.”

She Said by Jodi Kantor & Megan Twohey

Everybody said this was a good read, and it was. I love journalism books, and this was one of the truest to that form. In many ways, Kantor and Twohey had to make sure it was, that they crossed every ‘T’ and dotted every ‘I’ just so they didn’t leave themselves open to legal action, or worse, from the subjects of their investigation. This isn’t a long book, but it packs a big punch. Twohey and Kantor are extremely detailed in documenting their investigation, how […]

She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story that Helped Ignite a Movement by Jodi Kantor, Megan Twohey

I was telling a friend when I sat down to write this review that I was having a tough time finding my way in. When I reviewed Ronan Farrow’s Catch and Kill, I was able to talk about him as part of the review, since he put himself on the page as part of the writing, and that was my way in to getting my thoughts down. That book was about both the harassment and abuse of women by men in power and the efforts […]

(5 stars) She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement by Jodi Kantor, Megan Twohey This is a frustrating, angry-making book due entirely to the material — the writing itself is very well-done. But listening to hour after hour of the abuse suffered by women at the hands of powerful men made this a tough one to get through. I had to stop and take breaks from it multiple times. I just downloaded Ronan Farrow’s Catch and Kill as well, but I […]

Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.

You’ll read a lot of reviews about how this book is “gripping” and “thrilling” and “riveting,” and I’m not going to argue with any of it. For the first two-thirds of this book, I couldn’t put it down. I knew what was going to happen, but I really couldn’t stop reading. I looked forward to reading all day when I was at work. She Said is the story of how New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey investigated decades of rumors about producer […]
