Found Family In Space with Enemies to Lovers and a Psychic Cat

Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik

December 15, 2024 by Kit Moonstar 6 Comments

Captain Tavi Zarola does her best to keep her crew fed and her ship in working condition, but sometimes jobs are thin on the ground.  Which means she’s not in a position to turn down an extremely lucrative job, even it comes from General Torran Fletcher, who was on the opposite side of the war.  It certainly doesn’t help that Fletcher insists on accompanying Tavi’s crew along with his own team.  The war might be over, but it left scars on both sides.  But as […]

This was just such a fun ride

Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik

February 5, 2023 by Mobius_Walker 1 Comment

I received this book from the marvelous @teresaelectro as part of the 2022 Cannonball Read Book Exchange. Let me start by saying this book was simply a ton of fun. Captain Tavi Zarola is a former military captain who runs a small bounty-hunting crew. Though the massive inter-galactic war between the humans and the Valovians is over, tensions are still high. There’s peace in the galaxy, but it is precarious. Maintaining that peace is what is on Tavi’s mind when she is approached by the […]

Love in the stars

Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik

Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik

December 30, 2022 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

I’ve heard only great things about Jessie Mihalik’s books from Cannonball Read. I already had Polaris Rising on my shelf, but I read Hunt the Stars first. Since it was selected by The Ripped Bodice’s fantasy romance book club, it got moved into the rotation. The first Starlight’s Shadow book introduces us to Tavi and her space crew. They are space war veterans who use their skills now as bounty hunters. The war may be over with the Valoffs. However, most humans don’t trust this […]

The Softest Romance in Space

Eclipse the Moon by Jessie Mihalik

July 5, 2022 by LB 1 Comment

This series continues to bring me an infinite amount of joy with the romance and brings such great tension with the politics and power moves going on in the periphery. Only thing I don’t like is now I have to wait for the next book!! I love how Eclipse the Moon continues Starlight’s Shadow series, and especially Kee. She is one of my favorite characters, and I see so many pieces of myself in how she needs reminders to change tasks and worries about coming […]

An Ode to Cookies in Space, or Why We Fight

Eclipse the Moon by Jessie Mihalik

June 13, 2022 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I love the humanism of the domestic that Jessie Mihalik brings to her sci-fi romance adventures. Can it be cozy sci-fi if there are shootouts, kidnappings, and chases? Maybe cozy sci-fi is the wrong term, it certainly falls within soft sci-fi.  In addition to the romance at the center of this sci-fi adventure, there is care taking, affection, and a badass woman who cries when she is overwhelmed, but still gets the job done. The crew of Starlight’s Shadow cook real food, eat together, and […]

I read this book back in February, sorry for the rather lacklustre review

Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik

June 9, 2022 by Malin 1 Comment

Hello, welcome back to Malin reviews things she read several months ago, in this case – FIVE whole months. Let’s start off with the official book description: Octavia Zarola would do anything to keep her tiny, close-knit bounty hunting crew together—even if it means accepting a job from Torran Fletcher, a ruthless former general and her sworn enemy. When Torran offers her enough credits to not only keep her crew afloat but also hire someone to fix her ship, Tavi knows that she can’t refuse—no […]
