David Tennant makes everything better.

Exit, Pursued by a Bear & Luckiest Girl Alive by E.K. Johnston, Jessica Knoll

I just knew I heard “about” them and figured they would be a good way to pass a cold, rainy April weekend. What’s weird is that were pretty much the same story…just that one was way, way better than the other. Spoiler/trigger warning Both of these books deal with the rape of a high school student and the repercussions that follow. First lets get the bad out of the way. I really didn’t like the Luckiest Girl Alive. But there […]

The Most Desperate Girl Alive

Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll

The Most Desperate Girl Alive

Oh, I did not like the main character of this book, and while I don’t believe the author intended me to, I disliked her and all her friends and her whole freaking family so much that by the point when the big tragic event of Ani’s high school years was finally revealed, I felt almost guilty at my total lack of sympathy. “It’s okay to be insufferable as long as you’re aware that you’re being insufferable. At least that’s how I justified it to myself.” Ugh. So Ani FaNelli (formally TifAni, because her mother is some sort of Italian lunatic) attended this […]

You can’t escape the past

Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll

August 1, 2015 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

The Luckiest Girl Alive was another recommendation via Reese Witherspoon’s Instagram page; once again the woman has excellent taste in novels. The Luckiest Girl has “With cunning and verve of GILLIAN FLYNN but with an intensity all its own” written in huge letters on the front cover, and while drawing comparisons between Flynn and new female authors is getting a bit played out, this was the book I felt most merited the comparison. Like Flynn, Jessica Knoll has a female narrator with a dark past that begins to come to light as the novel’s events play out. Ani FaNelli has […]
