I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

March 6, 2023 by Caesar's Wife 1 Comment

Ok, so the blurb for this book describes it as ‘heartbreaking and hilarious’, and I need to have a very stern word to the editor because WOW there is nothing hilarious in this book. Jennette McCurdy has, unflinchingly and honestly, recounted a lifetime of abuse at the hands of her mother within these pages. You think Dance Moms are bad? They don’t have #$%& on Mrs McCurdy. The McCurdy household used and abused their youngest, Jennette, and forced her into child stardom. She was trotted […]

Sweep of the Heart (5 stars)- This was freaking fantastic. Dina and Sean definitely show us what two innkeepers can do when everything they have is on the line. I can’t wait for the next book! “Sweep of the Heart” follows the awesome events in the last book and novella. Dina and Sean have hit a nice rhythm until things take a turn and one of Sean’s werewolves friends gets kidnapped. The kidnappers have dropped him on a planet with a portal that will be […]

Yeah, I Could See That

I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

November 5, 2022 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

Best for: Those interested in what life can be like for a child actor with an abusive parent. In a nutshell: Jennette McCurdy became famous as part of a hit Nickelodeon television series. Behind the scenes, she was doing everything she could to please her abusive, narcissistic mother. Worth quoting: N/A (Audiobook) Why I chose it: I’ve seen it in so many shops, and it is a memoir read by the author – basically half of what I’ve been reading lately. Review: Damn. Content note […]

I’m Glad Her Mom Died Too…

I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

August 27, 2022 by Travis_J_Smith 1 Comment

Growing up, I never could get into iCarly. Trust me, I tried. With my love for Drake & Josh, I certainly tuned in for Miranda Cosgrove’s star vehicle, but not for long. Maybe I’d aged out of Nickelodeon’s live-action content by that point. Who knows? What I do know is that Cosgrove was outshined by her co-star, Jennette McCurdy, the one who only got second billing. And, knowing what I know now, having read her book, I’m simultaneously impressed by and saddened for her. McCurdy […]

‘I’ve got something more important to offer. Something I’m sure Mom cares about more than anything. “Mommy. I am . . . so skinny right now. I’m finally down to eighty-nine pounds.”’

CBR 14 Bingo: Monster The author’s mother is rather a monstrous one, which is only compounded by the codependent relationship between the two of them. Jennette McCurdy was a household name as a child actress, but it was because her mother wanted it, not here. In the aftermath of her mother’s death, she faces a slide into eating disorders before she understands the complex relationship between her and her mother that led her there. I think everyone has an occasionally fractious relationship with their mother, […]
