How is this my first Jen Lancaster book?

Stories I'd Tell in Bars by Jen Lancaster

May 29, 2019 by badkittyuno 2 Comments

Jen Lancaster has written a lot of memoirs, and I’ve somehow never picked one up. This e-book ended up accompanying me on a camping trip, and it was a fun read. None of the tales were particularly life-changing, but as a collection, it was as advertised — like hanging out with a friend at a bar, telling stories. Apparently she chose to self-publish this collection after it was turned down by her usual publishers. That had to have stung, after years of success, but no […]

Unfiltered. Unsupervised. Unapologetic.

Stories I'd Tell in Bars: yeah, bro, another memoir by Jen Lancaster

August 1, 2017 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

Jen Lancaster was the author that really got me into the memoir genre; she was loud, liked animals and felt comfortable sharing most of her somewhat ridiculous life with her audience. In recent years she has delved into fiction which I tried but haven’t enjoyed. Jen knew her core audience, including many of the women buying her fiction, wanted more memoirs from her and she wrote this book for them. But then her publisher didn’t want to publish “vintage Jen Lancaster” so she opted to […]

Bitter is Bitter

Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster

February 15, 2017 by Classic Leave a Comment

I ended up re-reading this book yesterday because I needed something to make me laugh. I have always gotten a kick out of Jen Lancaster’s older memoirs and even though I know them by heart, I still laugh each time. I think my main take away at reading this again after several years of reading her latest memoirs is that her older memoirs were more honest and up front about her life and family. Nowadays it feels like she always keeps things back. And she […]

Frenemies Forever

The Best of Enemies by Jen LancasterThe

The Best of Enemies – Review on KatsCannon I went into this book knowing I love Jen Lancaster. I have read several of her books, but this was the first one that was fiction. Jen formerly wrote memoirs – brilliant books of humor based on her own life. When I saw she had made the jump to fiction, I decided that was a thing that I needed to check out. For the most part< I was satisfied. This isn’t a book that is trying to […]

Frienemies until the end

The Best of Enemies by Jen Lancaster

December 29, 2015 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

I told myself, after Twisted Sisters, that I would stop reading Jen Lancaster’s works of fiction. However, the completionist in me couldn’t leave well enough alone; when I saw that The Best of Enemies was available at my local library I figured it couldn’t hurt to borrow her latest work of fiction and if it was awful I’d at least have saved the $25. So at least I’m not out $25. The Best of Enemies is the story of three women: Sarabeth Chandler, Jacqueline Jordan […]

I Don’t Regret This One

I Regret Nothing by Jen Lancaster

May 9, 2015 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

Last year I read Jen Lancaster’s Twisted Sisters and was disappointed. I have always loved Lancaster’s snarky memoirs but her works of fiction have routinely let me down. I am glad I didn’t write her off completely because she hasn’t lost her touch for self deprecating, entertaining non-fiction. I Regret Nothing is Jen’s journey through her “Bucket List” after realizing at 46-years-old she wasn’t getting any younger. Jen put some big things on her list like learning Italian and traveling to Rome, she also retroactively […]
