I think it’s just because the story itself which sounded interesting (your soulmate dies [Gu], you eat them [Dam]) just ended up not really being what I was being sold which said this was a horror novel. And the portion I finished didn’t read as horror. If anything it just read as sad. […]

When I started reading this book, I didn’t think I’d relate to so much of it. I knew it was about her body as a “woman of size,” and I knew a bit about Gay’s history as a victim/survivor of sexual violence, but I’m neither of these things, so was surprised.
