Once Upon a Book by Kate Messner and Grace Lin

July 26, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

cbr14bingo New Level 2 (coming in February 2023)  The only thing that could make this book (Once Upon a Book) cooler is if Tomie de Paola was somehow involved. This is a sweet book about imagination and some far out fantastic illustrations. The colors pop off the page, […]

A Big Mooncake for Little Star by Grace Lin

February 28, 2019 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

A Big Mooncake for Little Star is very clever. And while it is not based in an actual myth, Grace Lin has made a story that has that feeling of Asian mythology.  Her amazing illustrations make this a sweet bedtime story, but also it is the perfect anytime story. Of course, it is meant to be a bedtime.  These illustrations are detailed, but in a very simplicity manner. The placing of color also is strategic and moves the story forward. And while this is a […]

It is impossible. But it is not ridiculous.

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin

August 30, 2018 by melanir Leave a Comment

And guys, I um… I think it’s a better book then When You Reach Me. I read and reviewed When You Reach Me earlier this year, and while I thought it was fine I didn’t love it. And it might be because this book hits me where […]
