The Councillor

Thank you Moira Quirk–I would not have discovered this book without you.

The Councillor by E.J. Beaton

Okay I’m going to end the year with a book I mostly purchased because of who narrates the audiobook. This is some somewhat Machiavellian fantasy. With a scholar in a central role. For anyone who enjoys the politicking in George R R Martin’s books or perhaps The Priory of the Orange Tree, this might be for you. The Councillor starts off with a death. The Iron Queen Sarelin Brey has been murdered, and the question of her successor has not been left up to the […]

The Councillor

This was great! When is the second book coming?

The Councillor by E.J. Beaton

Hi. I loved this. Thank you Aquillia. That’s my review. Ugh, so many more words needed. Also, I know I ask for the next book in the title of this review, but I support writers writing on their own schedule. I started listening to the audiobook, narrated by Moira Quirk, after reading Aquillia’s review. When I got to somewhere near the end, I realized that I did not want this book to end and I did not see any information about a release date for […]

The Councillor by E.J. Beaton

Rec’d!: This book was recommended via Aquilla’s truly amazing review and is definitely one that I would never have run into myself. It’s the perfect example of why book reviews are so great, and finding a circle of reviewers with whom you connect is so amazing. SO this book. To quickly recap: the queen of a collection of four city-states/duchies(?) and one capital city has died without an heir, and as such a Councillor has been appointed to pick a new monarch from the rulers of […]

The Councillor

A book I might have wanted to write for myself

The Councillor by E.J. Beaton

June 9, 2021 by Aquillia 8 Comments

What’s this? A review? I actually kicked myself to write this review for multiple reasons. This book is a debut and I want to support debut authors. I just finished it but I’m on holiday and cannot yet meet my bookish friend in a café to talk about it. This book is so far up my alley I am devastated that I didn’t write it. (It’s written with far more beauty and panache than I could have, though). Also, Luca Fontaine. Another reason I’m reviewing […]
