I’m horrible

American Prison: A Reporter's Undercover Journey into the Business of Punishment by Shane Bauer

The Institute by Stephen King

Mountain Man by Keith C. Blackmore

In Distant Lands: A Short History of the Crusades by Lars Brownworth

I’ve been bad the last couple months. I finished all these books by early October, and have probably started a dozen books since then without finishing anything. And I’ve been reading Brandon Sanderson’s Misborn for about three months. I’m liking it, but I just can’t finish it for whatever reason. This hasn’t been a good Cannonball for me. But, much like my first Cannonball in 2015, I have the birth of a child to blame. Anyway, I’ll still try and review these books the best […]

No Danger of a Simple Story

December 18, 2018 by Jenny S Leave a Comment

Another Book That Led Me to Crack Open My Wallet

October 9, 2017 by Jenny S Leave a Comment

Like many nonfiction books that I pick up, Becoming Ms. Burton, was featured on NPR’s Fresh Air earlier this summer.  I had recently read Just Mercy and come off a spring semester of using “mass incarceration” as a model “wicked problem” that needed systems thinking to solve in my Composition 1 class.  [Students then picked their own “problem” to investigate and understand better for their research project.] It was interesting then to hear Susan Burton’s story of how she hit rock bottom after the death […]

A Better Piper

September 29, 2015 by Quorren Leave a Comment

I’m assuming everyone has watched the Netflix series by now.  Because if you haven’t, then I don’t understand what you are doing with your life.  Do you not like being happy?  Do you not liking having nice things? The show and the book are very different.  But, if you were shying away from picking up the book because Nexflix Piper is a tool, Book Piper is much, much better (as is Book Larry, not that that is much of a feat).  But there’s also more of […]

Thanks so much for reading the book and taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. I originally wrote...

I felt the same way. Interesting concept, but the execution was lacking.

on Sometimes, a book cover promises cats and lies. This book, on the other hand, delivers in spades. SO many cats, guys.
