Many of you read this years ago and I am only now catching up.

As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride by Cary Elwes

April 17, 2020 by narfna 1 Comment

Just a feel good read, talking all about one of my favorite movies. I did the audio version, and it was great fun not only having Cary Elwes read it himself, but for the parts that were “oral histories” from his fellow cast and crew members, many of them read as well (Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, Rob Reiner, Chris Sarandon, Christopher Guest). I already knew quite a bit of behind the scenes information because I went through a period about 10-15 years ago where I […]

”Joy in every pore”

August 27, 2018 by NoNeinNyet 3 Comments

Hi! We’re lowercasesee (lsc) and NoNeinNyet (NNN) and we joined forces for the CBR Bingo Two Heads Are Better Than One category to review Cary Elwes’s oral history of the making of The Princess Bride. lsc: I like it! Overall, I was utterly charmed, start to finish. NNN: It was great! Just the warmest experience I’ve had with a book in recent memory. lsc: Warm is such a good adjective! There’s just joy in every pore. NNN: All of the cast and crew members interviewed for this oral history clearly still […]

So, yeah. . .I read this

CBR Bingo entry Listicles: Goodreads’ Best Show Business Memoirs/Biographies I distinctly remember the first time I saw The Princess Bride. Like most fans, I did not see this cult classic during the original theatrical run, but caught it on VHS (that was pre-DVD for you young-us; DVD was pre-streaming for you toddlers). I was in college, hanging out with a couple of friends in a dorm room when one of them decided we should watch this awesome movie she had recently seen. For the next […]

Charming!

August 13, 2018 by Halbs Leave a Comment

Some quick facts that you need to know about me: I turn 35 this year, I loved The Princess Bride as a kid because he looked like Zorro and as a Hispanic kid I loved Zorro, I love pro-wrestling, and I didn’t like The Princess Bride as an adult. If you’ve ever driven from Austin to Dallas, you know it’s hell. First, because you’re sitting in traffic on I-35, and second, because you’re leaving Austin for Dallas. (Just kidding. Dallas has a cool skyline!) I […]

“This is true love. You think this happens every day?”

October 28, 2017 by Caitlin_D 2 Comments

First: I hit my goal! 120 books! I love The Princess Bride and I couldn’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve seen the movie so this was right up my alley. Cary Elwes, Wesley, put together his memories of shooting the beloved classic and intersperses his recollections with that of his cast mates. I listened to the audio-book and most of the actors read their own quotes which was magical. Cary details some of the pre-production, his audition as well as the decades long process […]

My College Boyfriend Looked Like Him

August 29, 2017 by ASKReviews 2 Comments

Best for: Readers who like to learn about the behind-the-scenes world of film-making but aren’t looking for salacious gossip. In a nutshell: Sweet actor writes sweet book about sweet film. Line that sticks with me: “But there was no hiding for Andre. When you are that big, there is no possible disguise; no way to shrink into the background.” Why I chose it: I recall it getting good reviews in the cannonball read previously, and it happened to be on sale. Win win! Review: Long […]
