A fantastic story of consequences and regrets

Blood for the Undying Throne by Sung-Il Kim, translated by Anton Hur

May 10, 2025 by LB Leave a Comment

I received an advance copy from the publisher via Netgalley for review purposes; this in no way influences my review. Blood for the Undying Throne releases Oct 28, 2025; Blood of the Old Kings is available now. There may be spoilers for book 1 of the Bleeding Empire. One day at the library, I happened across Blood of the Old Kings on the new releases shelf, and because I’m doing a reading challenge for 2025 where one of the prompts is a translated SFF, I […]

Love in the time of chaos

Chaos Burning by Lauren Dane

December 24, 2020 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Chaos Burning is the second Bound by Magick novel by Lauren Dane. I LOVED the first book, Hearts of Darkness, and hunted down the entire series. This go-round, we meet a new witch named Lark Jaansen. She has been kicking ass and taking names in Los Angeles. After the dangerous attack in the first book, Lark arrives in Seattle to teach these witches how to fight dirty. Just in time for a big bad of apocalyptic proportions to show up. It likes to devour Others […]

Another faerie murder mystery for October Daye

A Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire

October 31, 2020 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

A Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire is the second book in the October Daye series. I reviewed Rosemary and Rue for CBR11, so it’s only natural I pick the series back up for CBR 12. This novel finds the changeling Toby stumbling upon an unexpected murder mystery in Silicon Valley. As his knight, Toby can’t refuse a request from Sylvester, the Duke of Shadowed Hills. His kingdom is the faerie land closest to San Francisco. He wants her to check on his niece, January. She […]

Supernatural warriors need love too

The Undoing by Shelly Laurenston

The Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston

December 29, 2019 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

The Unleashing is a raunchy paranormal romance with a healthy dash of Viking mythology and Malibu soap opera. It was such an easy read, I thought I’d give the full Call of Crows trilogy a whirl. All the books follow a different female warrior in Los Angeles who has been resurrected by the goddess Skuld. These fighters are called Crows. Their clan is notorious for being vicious due to their vengeful roots. The other clans and even most of the gods don’t like to mess […]

It ain’t easy loving an Archangel

Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh

Archangel's Consort by Nalini Singh

December 28, 2019 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

After the cliffhanger of Angels’ Blood, I simply had to read more Guild Hunter books this year! This series starts with a bang and doesn’t slow down. Nalini Singh develops the passionate romance between hunter Elena Deveraux and her archangel Raphael. Through Elena, we go deeper and deeper into the angelic world. Archangels are the ruling class with regular angels and vampires serving them. Humans know very little and live in awe or fear the archangels. SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN’T READ BOOK ONE Archangel’s […]

Sometimes your mom does know best

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

December 23, 2019 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

The Bride Test is the second romance from Helen Hoang. I had to figure out what all the buzz was about for myself and was not disappointed. I absolutely love the illustrated cover. Definitely don’t want this trend to go away. I haven’t gotten around to her previous book, The Kiss Quotient, but thankfully, this series can be read as stand-alone books. The characters simply inhabit the same universe. After a tragic loss, Khai Diep believes he can’t feel emotion because his grief didn’t follow […]

I was agog after reading that sentence. Could not read on for five minutes. I mean, wtf.

“Skin covered finger bones”—that’s hilarious. This was a very satisfying review.
