Tender Cruelty

Limping to a finish …

Tender Cruelty by Katee Robert

December 14, 2025 by Jen K 2 Comments

This was far from my favorite of the series but also not at the bottom. Still, the series has run out of steam and it’s time to wrap this up so it’s good that this one is second to last. To be honest, when I look back at the series, I am not sure any of the ones that have come after the third book (Helen, Achilles and Patroclus) have had me nearly as invested in the romantic leads as the early novels. This one […]

Norse inspired marriage of convenience

Tears of the Wolf by Elisabeth Wheatley

I wouldn’t have said that I was on Norse or Viking kick this year and yet this is somehow the fifth Viking/Nordic inspired fantasy novel I have read this year (three of them were part of the same trilogy, though, The Bloodsworn). I discovered Elisabeth Wheatley because her book goblin reels/videos kept showing up in my feed, and then I realized she wasn’t just a fellow reader and book lover but an author so I decided to try her latest release (there’s a sequel coming […]

I’m crying because I was just in a bloody battle. I hated every second of it and I would not recommend it to a friend.

Gwen & Art Are Not in Love by Lex Croucher

“Studying for what?” “Um. Everything? My future,” Gabriel said. Arthur’s instinct was to laugh, but he managed to keep himself in check. “You’re studying for life? For your life? Is there a—is there a how-to guide for monarchs? Tips and tricks for subjugating the masses? Prevent a revolt in ten easy steps?” ― Lex Croucher, Gwen & Art Are Not in Love “If you wanted to come and find me, I’ve actually been pretty stationary. You know. Nearly dying.” ― Lex Croucher, Gwen & Art […]

Long drawn-out pining, really not my cup of tea

Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell

February 4, 2024 by Malin 1 Comment

Nowhere Bingo Card: A book that’s been on my shelf for more than a year Prince Kiem, a minor royal in the Iskat Empire is called before the Emperor and told in no uncertain terms that he will be getting married to secure a valuable political alliance. The Empire is about to renegotiate its treaty agreements with all the planets in its dominion, and the representatives all have to be married to be accepted (that bit wasn’t entirely clear to me). So Kiem has to […]

Whole new meaning to Under the Sea

Mera: Tidebreaker by Danielle Paige

May 8, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I have not decided why the cover of Mera: Tidebreaker turned me off to the book. In fact, the whole story turned me off. I have never been an Aquaman fan, so maybe that was why. Maybe I was afraid that Danielle Paige would make her too “Girl Power-She-Woman-Man-Hater.” Maybe I was just really envious of her red hair. Regardless of my misgivings, when I finally found a copy of this graphic novel, I was willing to give it a shot. And I am glad […]

A really sweet YA romance

June 29, 2018 by Malin Leave a Comment

All Dimple Shah wants is to go to Stanford and become a web developer. She fights against her mother’s expectations of her, that she wear girlier clothes and make-up and find a “nice Indian husband”. When her parents agree to let her attend a web development seminar in San Francisco for the summer, she becomes more optimistic that they may in fact support her career goals. Rishi Patel loves hearing the story about how his parents met and has no problem with the idea of […]
