Not your mama’s Wizard of Oz

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

January 13, 2023 by Scootchyknees 2 Comments

“[My mother] told me that, whatever anyone at school said, a trailer was where I lived, not who I was. She told me that it was the best home in the world because it could go anywhere.” And what better place to go than the colorful, magical land of Oz? But we learn quickly that this ain’t your mama’s Oz. Dorothy Must Die is the first of a series of novellas about Amy, from…(I’ll give you one guess). She’s in high school with a mother […]

Whole new meaning to Under the Sea

Mera: Tidebreaker by Danielle Paige

May 8, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I have not decided why the cover of Mera: Tidebreaker turned me off to the book. In fact, the whole story turned me off. I have never been an Aquaman fan, so maybe that was why. Maybe I was afraid that Danielle Paige would make her too “Girl Power-She-Woman-Man-Hater.” Maybe I was just really envious of her red hair. Regardless of my misgivings, when I finally found a copy of this graphic novel, I was willing to give it a shot. And I am glad […]

Mera: Tidebreaker by Danielle Paige, Stephen Byrne

May 23, 2019 by cosbrarian Leave a Comment

Mera is princess of the underwater kingdom Xebel, and her nation is in a shaky peace treaty with the Atlantian Kingdom. Essentially their treaty is “Xebel is under Atlantian Rule, so don’t rebel and we’ll keep the peace.” But the citizens of Xebel are fed up and Mera’s father has his own plans for the kingdom. His first plan? Marry off Mera to a Xebel Warrior and childhood betrothed. Second plan? Send out said warrior to bring back the head of the prince of Atlantis.  […]

Betcha on land, they understand that they don’t reprimand their daughters

Mera: Tidebreaker by Danielle Paige

April 2, 2019 by J 2 Comments

Mera of Xebel wants more than anything to fight for her throne, but no one seems to be listening. Everyone, including her father, expects her to marry her childhood friend, Larken of the Trench, and let him take over their country’s long-running rebellion against Atlantis. Mera, determined to follow in her mother’s warrior footsteps, hatches a plan to eliminate the heir of Atlantis. But the Atlantean prince turns out to be not who Mera expected to find. I always enjoy Mera when I read Aquaman […]

The Wrecked World of A Fairy Tale

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

December 21, 2016 by melanir Leave a Comment

I’m going back on forth on whether this is a two star or three star books. We’ll say two and a half and round up (I rounded down on Goodreads, cause I’m mean) It’s fine, I liked it better then Wicked, but there are a lot of problems and it’s mostly just meh. Except it’s also Oz, and guys, I love Oz. Let’s start with Oz; I’ve been in love with the Oz books for as long as I’ve been reading. I’ve only read the Baum books, though […]
