Literary Kindred Spirit

August 15, 2016 by melanir Leave a Comment

I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve re-read this book as it has been a favorite of mine for a long time. The book, and it’s follow up books, are classics for a reason. During a recent bout with insomnia I decided to pick it up again and was charmed all over again by Anne and her scrapes. The plot is quite well known, but just in case here it is. Mathew and Marilla Cuthbert, a pair of spinster siblings who run a […]

When you are imagining, you may as well imagine something worth while

February 27, 2016 by Malin 2 Comments

Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert are a middle-aged brother and sister who live together and manage the farm of Green Gables on Prince Edward Island in Canada. They intend to take in a small orphan boy to be of help to them on the farm, but due to a mix-up, little eleven-year-old Anne Shirley is sent to them instead. Matthew, who is extremely shy, especially around women, nonetheless warms to the loquacious and imaginative child and after hearing a bit about the hardships the orphan girl […]

A new discovery! Written…almost 90 years ago

December 7, 2015 by Sophia 11 Comments

Anne with an ‘e’ played a huge role in my childhood. I can’t remember when my mom first bought me Anne of Green Gables, but the rest of the series followed soon after. The first time I saw the movie, I was enthralled. The casting was perfect, and I was in love with Gilbert. The Emily trilogy was an exciting find as well, although not quite as impressionable. I always assumed I’d read everything by L.M. Montgomery, but then I found a review for The […]

Like three tumblersful of raspberry cordial. Okay, maybe just two.

Confession: I am an Anne of Green Gables nerd. As a kid, I re-read the entire series at least twice a year well into my young adulthood. I am fairly certain if The Chancellor and I were to take a pilgrimage to Prince Edward Island, he’d have to Xanax me up, because I’d have a full-on, Kristen-Bell-meets-a-sloth panic attack at seeing the Cavendish farmhouse. I’m not even kidding. It’s really serious. So I was intrigued when yesknopemaybe posted a CBR review (happy Cannonball, by the […]

If Anne Shirley was a Teenager in 2015

CANNONBALL! It’s always a bit scary reading an adaptation or re-imagining of source material that’s important to you. I loooooooove the Anne of Green Gables series and have loved it ever since my grandparents gave me a box set when I was a little girl. There is serious magic in those books and characters. AoGG is for me what the Harry Potter series is to teenagers and twentysomethings today. So when I saw that Andi Teran had written a modern-day take on Anne and company, […]

Yeah, it’s a great look at early jazz. Poor guy, but he was definitely not the only one.

Agree 💯 with this review. I'd even add that I didn't buy Willem's relationship with Jude. It was just a...
