I liked this??????

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas

January 9, 2019 by narfna 6 Comments

I was already poised to like this book, past feelings about Sarah J. Maas aside. It’s a Beauty and the Beast/Ballad of Tam Lin hybrid retelling, and unless you make some sort of grave mistake, you’ve already got the outline of the story ready to go (tried and true over hundreds of years and variations), and it’s pretty hard to mess that up. And she doesn’t! I thought the story worked well as a combo B&B/Tam-Lin/original elements mish-mash. The first half is mostly Beauty and the […]

Like an appetizer that just makes you want the actual meal even more

I love Sarah J. Maas novels, and especially her series A Court of Thorns and Roses.  I knew going in that this novella was supposed to help serve as a bridge between the last book and the upcoming novels in the series, but despite that, I was a bit disappointed with this one as a whole (I may have had too much wine to drink to really appreciate this one). The story is set before and during Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, […]

It’s time to go to war

June 25, 2017 by Malin Leave a Comment

Spoiler warning! This review is going to contain spoilers for earlier books in the series, and possibly some mild ones for the content of this book too. If you’re not caught up, you probably want to skip this review for now. Come back when you’ve read the books, they’re worth your time if you like action-packed fantasy. The beginning of this book finds Fayre back at the Spring court, after Tamlin made a bargain with the the High King and had her bond with Rhysand […]

To the stars who listen – and the dreams that are answered

June 25, 2017 by Malin Leave a Comment

Spoiler warning! This is book 2 in a series, and it’s impossible for me to review this book without giving some spoilers for the book that came before. If you haven’t read the first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses, you should maybe give this review a miss until you’re caught up. There will also be some spoilers for this book, because it’s impossible to talk about what happens in it without them. Feyre is back at the Spring Court a vastly changed woman, […]

East of the Sun, West of the Moon – but with more sex and violence

May 5, 2016 by Malin Leave a Comment

After Feyre’s father lost all his money, her family (widowed, crippled father and two older sisters) live in a tiny cottage desperately trying to make ends meet. They mainly survive because Feyre taught herself to hunt and tries to make sure they have enough to eat. The only way they make money is if her father sells one of his wood carvings or Feyre has animal skins to sell at the market. One day, when Fayre sees a giant wolf in the woods while hunting […]
