The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass by Stephen King

by Leave a Comment

Wizard and Glass is number four in Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, and this is my second trip to the Tower. As a long Constant Reader, I always had mixed feelings about this book when I thought back on it. Most of the story takes place with Roland telling his ka-tet about his childhood and his first love, Susan, the girl in the window. It tells the story of three boys who are sent away, supposedly to keep them safe from being caught up in […]

Different Seasons by Stephen King

At least 30 years ago I read The Shining and really enjoyed it, so I’m not sure why I never picked up another book by Stephen King. Probably it’s because I’m not a huge horror fan, although Shirley Jackson’s Haunting of Hill House started to change my mind about that. Recently, a friend of mine convinced me that I should try Different Seasons, and knowing that it contained the novella that was the basis for The Shawshank Redemption, I thought, “Yes! Excellent idea!” It’s always […]

Hansel and Gretel by Stephen King

Hansel and Gretel by Stephen King

Honestly, just a nice little audiobook by Stephen King. He begins telling about how he became familiar with Maurice Sendak and how he told stories to his three children and what their favorite stories were. I honestly always loved the story of Hansel and Gretel. What’s not to love about two children who manage to out-wit a witch and get away from their evil stepmother? I do love that King is like yeah I have taken liberties with this story and I regret nothing. Hansel […]

The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands by Stephen King

by 3 Comments

For those keeping score: I’ve continued my return pilgrimage to The Dark Tower, recently completing the third novel in this epic tale. The Waste Lands brings Roland further along the path of the Beam toward his ultimate destination. This time, there are a few more members in the ka-tet, and the devastation of a world that has “moved on” becomes clearer. Throughout this third novel, Jake is welcomed back into Roland’s world and is officially part of the gang. Even more delightfully, Oy the billy-bumbler […]

Gwendy’s Button Box (Book 1) by Stephen King

by Leave a Comment

Wanna know something funny? I think Gwendy’s Button Box (Book 1) found me and not the other way around. It has been out for awhile (2017 or so) and I had seen it off and on, but it was Stephen King so I expected it to be super horror, gross, and I was never in the mood for that. Then one day, I saw a list of books and this one was on it. And I said, you know what? It is short, let me […]
