Terror at the Gates by Scarlett St. Clair

Mafia, magic, and sin

Terror at the Gates by Scarlett St. Clair

December 26, 2025 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Terror at the Gates is the first book in the new Blood of Lilith duology series from Scarlett St. Clair. The city of Eden is split into different districts ruled by mafia-esque families. Women of this world are born with magic, which they are allowed to use only if approved by their fathers or husbands. We meet Lilith Leviathan after she has run away from her posh district to live by her own rules in the red light district. She has sex magic that allows […]

Only on Game Day by Kristen Callihan

I find the trend of not using condoms the first time the characters have sex terrifying

Only on Game Day by Kristen Callihan

December 26, 2025 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I’m glad to see Kristen Callihan publishing again, even if I can’t recommend this particular book. Only on Game Day is very much in keeping with her new adult Game On series. I suspect this is the start of a series centering the Luck family. Three Luck brothers, January, August, and March are at various stages in their football careers – January sidelined after a career ending injury, August the first round draft pick quarterback, and March a college star. There are Luck sisters too – […]

cover of three holidays and a wedding

“That’s all any of us can do, in the end. Say bismillah, and try.”

Three Holidays and a Wedding by Uzma Jalaluddin and Marisa Stapley

December 26, 2025 by faintingviolet Leave a Comment

Last year I read Uzma Jalaluddin’s Ayesha at Last and enjoyed it enough to have her on my radar for a book to add to this year’s list. With a happy coincidence of needing a non-Christmas holiday romance for the Read Harder challenge, Three Holidays and a Wedding by Jalaluddin and Marissa Stapley. The story is set in December 2000 when Ramadan, Hannukah, and Christmas all overlapped and tells the story of several people who are snowbound in a small Canadian town when their plane is diverted on its approach to Toronto.   […]

“Some called it arrogance. She called it competence untainted by performative humility.”

The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley

December 25, 2025 by Nart Leave a Comment

First a warning – this is a two novel story and there is only one out. The second book comes up July 7, 2026. If you are the kind of person who, like me, hates incomplete stories, delay reading this. Second warning – I understand this is a reskinning of a very popular Harry Potter fan fiction, and that readers of said fan fiction have mixed feelings about this book. I am not a Harry Potter fan at all, so I neither read that originating […]

Cold magic, revolution, and love

Cold Magic by Kate Elliott

Cold Fire by Kate Elliott

Cold Steel by Kate Elliott

December 25, 2025 by Dome'Loki 4 Comments

This review is for emmalita.  I haven’t been writing reviews in months due to life reasons but I wanted to share with her how awesome I found this trilogy.  Instead of writing her a bunch of texts, I decided it was time to write a review.  Emmalita introduced me to Kate Elliott with The Keeper’s Six.  Earlier this year I devoured Elliott’s’ The Witch Roads and it got me wanting to explore her back catalog so I got the audiobook version of Cold Magic, book one […]

A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole

Back to beginning of the Immortals After Dark universe

A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole

December 25, 2025 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

9 years later, I’ve still not finished Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series. But I do own all of them since Kresley kindly stopped by The Ripped Bodice to sign the re-release of the series. I adore the new cover of A Hunger Like No Other, which is now a comfort read. I re-read it for TRB’s fantasy book club in July, and devoured it once again! I wouldn’t have guessed that from my first review. But here we are, unabashedly loving fated supernatural mates […]

on Too Old for This- Geriatric serial killers rock!

on A family can be two sisters, one of those sister’s descendants, two other sisters, a magic whale, a sentient island, an omnipotent museum, and academic papers
Made a mistake - there's no 'the' in the title. And the book had me at the cover too.
