At first I was annoyed that this book, the second in the Commissaire Adamsberg series, spent so little time with Jean-Baptiste himself. The character of Camille, Adamsbergs petit cherie, is just a little too freaking quirky for me. A musician, composer and plumber who reads tool catalogues for fun and edification, she currently resides in a small village in the Alpes-Maritimes where she has befriended a local sheep farmer, as well as a handsome Canadian naturalist who is studying the re-introduction of wolves in a national park nearby. A Time Worth Living In
You guys and gals should prepare yourself for even more reviews about Station Eleven. It’s simply fantastic. I’m rating it 4.5 stars and leaving myself the option of bumping it up to 5 stars later . I still don’t know because I’m too busy rolling around in all the feels. (And I have, because the further removed from the reading the MORE I have fallen in love with the work.) I have the impression that I’ve been reading a lot of dystopian future books lately. […]
Another heart-pounding thriller in Paris
Where has Aimee Leduc been all my life? I read alot of European crime fiction and I can’t believe it took me this long to get to Cara Blacks series about this Parisian private investigator. I’ll be making up for lost time, getting through as much of the 14 book series as I can in anticipation of the 15th book coming out in March. This tale picks up some months after the end of the last book Murder in Marais. She has healed from the plastic […]
Like High School, all over again.
Like Julia Roberts at every single awards show, I’m gonna go ahead and make this review all about me. You see, I am a stay-at-home mom with three kids in elementary school. I am the room mother for the kindergarten class. I live in a suburb just outside of Washington DC that is equal parts hard-working folks who are doing ok and CRAZY MONEY PEOPLE. Lots of other moms at school come to volunteer dressed to the nines — in outfits straight off the runway, […]
A promising, yet somewhat flawed beginning
Alix “Owl” Hiboux is an archaeology grad student who was screwed over by her professors and turned to a life of art theft to support herself. After a job gone wrong, she ended up on some French vampires’ hit list and has been hiding out in a Winnebago in the desert, playing online roleplaying games in her downtime. She’s sworn off any kind of supernatural job ever again, but can’t really refuse when a helicopter comes to pick her up to take her to Mr. […]
This is why we can’t have nice things.
CURSE YOU, *Name Redacted.* CURSE YOU. This is all you’re frakkin’ fault. So, Friday I get this message: “I’m loaning you DEACON by Kristen Ashley. It’s actually okay. You may even enjoy it.” See? *Name Redacted* gets me. She knows that this train wreck of a writer is like crack to me and that I can’t stay away even though I pretty much hate her books. STOP PUSHING MY BUTTONS, DAMN IT. DEACON is actually the fourth book in the Unfinished Heroes series. It’s the […]
