Scooby Doo, where are you Batman?

The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries, Vol. 1 by various

Greener on the Other Side (Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures) by Matthew K. Manning and Jon Sommariva

July 31, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Like comics? Like cartoons? Like fun mashups? See below for some possible fun. So you like Batman? And you like Scooby Doo? Well, The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries, Vol. 1 is a fun way to get your fix of both. While we have the Batman villains, the Scooby Doo humor comes into play. Various stories (with Batman, different Robins, Nightwing, Joker, Batgirl and more, some new to me, or maybe just lesser known overall) intertwin the DC universe with the Scooby Gang. There is even […]

Howl's Moving Castle Picture Book (Howl's Moving Castle Film Comics, #1) by Diana Wynne Jones

July 31, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I have not read the novel this movie is based on, Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, nor seen the movie. Which might have helped with the reading of the picture book, Howl’s Moving Castle Picture Book (Howl’s Moving Castle Film Comics, #1), as there were “holes” in the flow of things that look like plot pieces are missing. But then again it is more of a screenplay (by by Hayao Miyazaki) and that might have something to do with the “holes” in my […]

CBR16 Bingo: Part One – The first 300 pages. Part Two – The second 300 pages And Also… Part Three – The last 300-odd pages. It was a long book. To keep everyone and everything she loves safe, she will have to figure out how to destroy – and that’s if she can manage to find her way home first. […]

Is It Coming Home?

The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman

July 29, 2024 by Jake 2 Comments

Read as part of CBR16 Bingo: fanfic. This is Lev Grossman’s take on the King Arthur mythos.  I don’t really know how to write this review because I loved it and I really want to give it my full throated endorsement. But there are things I loved about the book itself and things as an Arthur fan that I both loved and hated. Let’s start here: it’s one of the best things I’ve read in 2024. I liked the first Magicians book, less so the other two. […]

“That was what it meant to have power, wasn’t it? You could simply destroy that which didn’t serve you.”

Seven Faceless Saints by M.K. Lobb

July 28, 2024 by Pooja Leave a Comment

CBR16 Bingo: Rage – Roz and her friends rage against the machine, trying to make a change in the very workings of their city-state. In a city-state where there is a sharp class divide between those blessed by the saints and those without magic, ex-lovers Roz and Damian must work together to uncover the identity of a ritual murderer. I don’t read as much fantasy as I used to nowadays – certainly I don’t read much YA fantasy anymore, especially from authors I am unfamiliar […]
